Nijmegen vs Telstar Prediction & Betting tips
NEC is the daring title candidate, but the pressure is starting to increase, especially after the loss in Eindhoven. The Nijmegen team must win from Telstar to keep up Fortuna Sittard.
NEC:
If NEC becomes champion of the Jupiler League, it will be seen as a surprise by few followers of Dutch football. The Nijmegen team have the most experience and a good budget, but until now it is not easy for Pepijn Lijnders’ team. NEC regularly buys victories, but also leaves points too often, which means that Fortuna Sittard can always stay in the wake of the Gelderlanders. Last Friday, the Limburgers even tipped over NEC and as a result the pressure started to increase considerably in the Goffert. Of the last eight games, the Nijmegen team only won three and that shows that it really is not good in terms of stability and form.
The match against the swaying FC Eindhoven last Friday night seemed to be extremely suitable in advance to give the self-confidence a nice boost. De Brabanders have been leaving weeks to show their best game, but just against NEC it suddenly succeeded. Elton Kabangu put a 2-0 lead on the board in the Jan Louwers Stadium before half time and in the 82nd minute there was even a goal from Kyle de Silva. NEC then woke up and scored through goals from Anass Achahbar and Wojciech Golla, but it was already too late. Because of this defeat NEC thus dropped to second place. The hole with Fortuna Sittard is only one point, but the lack of form gives the staff a lot of worries.
For the meeting with Telstar, Lijnders has the choice of a large group of players. There are still some injuries, but this involves players who are not usually among the best eleven.
Telstar:
Telstar has performed slightly less well in recent months than before and as a result the team from Velsen-Zuid dropped to fifth place. This position is still much better than expected and in fact it is still strange that many of Telstar’s wins are already expected. Trainer Mike Snoei has a talented group, but other clubs from the top ten often have a lot more budget to attract players. The current position of Telstar is therefore still surprisingly good. Of the last nine games, Telstar lost only one and actually it is due to the large number of draws that Jong PSV has now seized fourth place. The last three duels all yielded a draw and in that series of three, Telstar produced only one goal.
The matches against FC Oss and RKC Waalwijk seemed to be suitable for taking points, but it did not come that far. Telstar held the zero twice, which is certainly good in a goal-rich competition like the Jupiler League, but did not score itself. Telstar will easily place itself for the playoffs, but it is questionable whether the North Hollanders can really make a bid for promotion. Perhaps in terms of players’ material, potential and infrastructure, it is also a bit too high for the wading.
Snoei will probably have to make a few changes before the game against NEC. The biggest damper is the loss of Andrija Novakovich. The American international gathered his fifth yellow card of the season on Friday and that is a suspension for him. Elso Brito fell out with an injury and there is a question mark behind his name.
