Northern Ireland vs Austria Prediction & Betting tips
In League B, Group 1, Northern Ireland and Austria will face each other on Sunday. The Northern Irish surprised earlier this week by taking out Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Northern Ireland:
Northern Ireland was one of the sixteen countries that received a second chance from UEFA on a European Championship starting ticket. In their qualifying group, the British had finished in third place, but the playoff arrangement meant there was a chance for the team to make it to the final round. In the semifinals, everything went according to plan for The Green and White Army. On a visit to Bosnia, that country was eliminated after penalties by the team of national coach Ian Baraclough (1-1, Northern Ireland w.n.s).
“The boys’ spirit is great,” Baraclough complimented his players after the thriller in Sarajevo. “They don’t think about themselves, but only about the team.” Northern Ireland will play against Slovakia in the final of the playoffs. However, that game is only next month, so the need to save players is not immediately there for the manager.
Austria:
For Austria, the week has so far been one of lesser stakes. Das Team already qualified for the European Championship without detours last year, so she did not have to worry about the play-offs. Austria played friendly against Greece in Klagenfurt on Wednesday-evening. The Alpenland seemed on their way to a surprise home defeat, but late hits by Adrian Grbic and Cristoph Baumgartner turned a 0-1 deficit into a 2-1 win.
Bundestrainer Franco Foda had to do without some of his strongholds on Wednesday. And for Sunday’s match, Austria is certainly not at full strength. For example, Marcel Sabitzer and Konrad Laimer are missing. Nevertheless, Foda can still send a representative team into the field. David Alaba was sidelined last Wednesday, but the Bayern Munich player is expected to start in Belfast.
