Northern Ireland vs Netherlands Prediction & Betting tips
In group C of the European Championship qualifier, the Netherlands leader will visit number three Northern Ireland in her penultimate group match on Saturday evening. The men of Ronald Koeman need a draw in Belfast to secure their European Championship ticket permanently, but the Northern Irish have to win to keep their last glimmer of hope of European Championship participation alive.
Northern Ireland:
Northern Ireland took the lead in Group C of the European Championship qualification for quite some time, but now threatens to miss the boat. With a gap of three points on the frontrunners of the Netherlands and Germany, the British will have to win their two remaining group duels anyway, but that will be a tough task with the Netherlands-home and Germany-out. Defender Michael Smith is certainly not afraid: “We will do everything we can to grab the three points. If we succeed, we have a realistic chance of winning the European Championship in and against Germany. ”
Yet there is currently a rather strange situation going on in the Northern Irish camp. Coach Michael O’Neill signed a contract last week as trainer of Stoke City and made his debut last weekend in the 4-2 victory over Barnsley. At the same time, however, he will also complete the European Championship qualifying series with Northern Ireland. “It’s quite confusing,” defender Jonny Evans admitted. ‘I wonder how this double role will turn out. If we make the play-offs, will he still be our national coach? And what if we know how to qualify for the European Championship, will he be there? ” O’Neill deserves respect, because under his national coach, Northern Ireland has grown from a football dwarf to a European sub-topper, with a place in the eighth finals of the 2016 European Championships. However, there is certainly no question of an ideal situation now.
Netherlands:
The Netherlands is in a hurry, because the men of national coach Ronald Koeman will have a draw on Saturday evening in Belfast to qualify for the European Championship next year. Orange, however, sets the bar high and hopes to beat Germany off in the battle for group victory. With a win over Northern Ireland, that goal has almost certainly been achieved, since the last group match against the weak Estonia next Tuesday should not cause any problems.
After missing out on the 2016 European Championship and the 2018 World Cup, the Netherlands is back at the global top. Koeman is taking full advantage of a golden generation, with Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt as the main exponents. In the meantime, the next generation is already coming up, because Calvin Stengs are in this selection for the first time in the selection of the Orange squad. It could just be that the AZ players are allowed to make their debut on Saturday evening, because with Steven Bergwijn, Donyell Malen and Memphis Depay in the rag basket, the flush in the Dutch vanguard is currently very thin. Koeman, however, is known as a conservative coach, so I think he would prefer to kick off someone like Luuk de Jong, with Quincy Promes and Ryan Babel on their wings.
