Norwich vs Aston Villa Prediction & Betting tips
Norwich City and Aston Villa are active in the Premier League as PhD candidates this season and are still having a difficult time at the highest level in England. This weekend the two teams face each other on Carrow Road.
Norwich City:
Last season, Norwich City became champion in the Championship and The Canaries hoped with the team from last season to be able to get high profile in the Premier League. For the time being this is not entirely successful, because Norwich City is only just above the line and if Aston Villa is lost then The Canaries are below the line. The fact that Norwich City is not under the line at the moment is due to the unexpected 3-2 victory over Manchester City three weeks ago.
That victory over Manchester City not only came unexpectedly, but also does not fit into the current form of Norwich City. The Canaries lost five of the last six games and that other game was the game with Manchester City. In those other five games, Daniel Farke’s team lost to Crawley Town (1-0, Carabao Cup), Burnley (2-0) and Crystal Palace (2-0). Especially the defeats of Burnley and Crystal Palace over the past two weeks are sour for Norwich City, because normally The Canaries have to take points against such opponents. Just like in the previous round, Farke has to miss a lot of players against Aston Villa; goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann was injured against Crystal Palace prematurely, so the German is not there this weekend. Tim Krul also doesn’t seem fit and so Farke will probably have to call on third goalkeeper and the already 35-year-old Michael McGovern.
Aston Villa:
At Aston Villa, things aren’t going as well as The Villans had hoped. The club from Birmingham is under the line in the Premier League and only managed to grab five points. Unlike at Norwich City, they have thrown millions of transfers at Aston Villa last summer, and that was necessary, because Aston Villa’s promotion actually came completely unexpected and last season’s selection was clearly not ready for the Premier League. The question is of course whether the current selection is, but on paper Villa really doesn’t have a bad team.
However, football is not played on paper but on the field. For the time being, Aston Villa is not doing so well on the field, as The Villans have not won in the Premier League since the first round. Last weekend, Aston Villa took the lead twice on its own Villa Park against Burnley, but in both cases The Villans gave that lead away again. In total, Aston Villa has already lost eight points this season after taking the lead and no Premier League team has lost more points.
