Paraguay vs Qatar Prediction & Betting tips
Paraguay begins its adventure in Copa America with the match against Qatar, one of the two invited countries of this tournament. Both countries seem well matched, so it promises to be an exciting competition at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro!
Paraguay:
Paraguay is normally one of the outsiders for tournament win, but with an odd of no less than 51 (Betway) the bookmakers have very little faith in a stunt by Los Guaranies this summer. Understandable, because in recent years the country has not made a dent in a packet of butter. The red and white grabbed next to a starting ticket for last year’s World Cup, and ended up stiff at the bottom during the group stage in the last edition of the Copa America. In the last practice international prior to this Copa America, although it was 2-0 won against the invalid Guatemala, that was only the first victory since October 2017.
So Paraguayan self-confidence is not the best. However, there is not much to blame for national coach Eduardo Berizzo, because he simply has to work with a very moderate generation. Not long ago, Paraguay with players such as Calros Gamarra, Jose Luis Chilavert, Nelson Valdez and Roque Santa Cruz was a country to be reckoned with, but players with such qualities are not in the current selection. The only player who really has something to look for at this level is playmaker Miguel Almiron (Newcastle United), although of course he can’t do it on his own either.
Qatar:
Also little is expected from Qatar, which of course may participate in the Copa America for the very first time. In contrast to Paraguay, the Arab oil state is in an excellent shape. At the beginning of this year, the country managed to seize the AFC Asian Cup completely unexpectedly by, among other things, dealing with local powers such as South Korea and Japan. Qatar also managed to take that good shape to South America. The team of national coach Felix Sanchez lost 2-0 a week and a half ago in Brasilia in a friendly game against Brazil, but the Brazilians played largely in their intended basic line-up.
All 23 players from Qatar are still active in their own Stars League, so for most this is the first serious tournament on a foreign continent. The big question is, of course, to what extent the Qatari are able to adapt to the new circumstances, even though it went pretty well against Brazil. Qatar hopes that the defense will be just as solid as during the Asian championship, when it only had to allow one goal in seven matches.
