Portugal vs Mexico Prediction & Betting tips
For the second time in this edition of the Confederations Cup, Portugal and Mexico are facing each other. The first confrontation was the opening game in Group A, when both countries were still dreaming of tournament profits. Sunday afternoon, however, is only the third place at stake. Will the Portuguese and Mexicans be able to recharge themselves?
Portugal :
For Portugal, the Confederation Cup has been turned out to be a deception. In the group phase there was no dirt in the first place, but in the semifinal against Chile it went wrong. After both regular play time and extension did not produce goals, a penalty shootout had to be finalized. In that, Chili’s closing post Bravo proved to be an enormous plague spirit, as he stopped no less than three Portuguese punishments.
The bronze slice is of course a nice souvenir, but the real toppers are not really hot too. Coach Fernando Santos therefore decided to send superstar Cristiano Ronaldo after a long and declining season – he is out of the party on Sunday afternoon in St. Petersburg. He recently became a twin father, but stayed at the Portuguese camp to help his teammakers. By the way, defender Raphael Guerreiro is already on vacation. He has been injured for a while, so he did not want to stay with the selection.
The extent to which Portugal can charge for this consolation final is of course only the question. However, according to defender Cedric Soares, motivation is not a problem: “We’re in third place, even without Cristiano Ronaldo.” There is a chance that Fernando Santos will rotate in this duel to provide some other players playing time.
Probable setup Portugal
Beto; Eliseu, Pepe, Bruno Alves, Nelsinho; Quaresma, Pizzi, Danilo Pereira, Bernardo Silva; Nani, Andre Silva
Mexico :
Of course Mexico also had a lot to be in the final, although this comfort final is not quite a surprise. The Central Americans only started as an outsider to the Confederation Cup. The country managed to keep Russia and New Zealand behind, but in the semi-finals Germany proved 4-1 to be too strong for the team of coach Osorio. The ruling world champion rebuked El Tri’s defensive mistakes even though Osorio had another match: “I think we had earned more on the basis of the chances we created. Unfortunately, we were not efficient enough. ” Of course, you as a coach would like to create a positive atmosphere, but Germany was simply a buddy too big. Mexico has never managed to keep her goal clear in four games.
At Mexico, no-one received premature holidays. However, Osorio is likely to roll. PSV midfielder Guardado most likely returns to the base after a suspension. Perhaps we also see the new PSV win Lozano again. He signed in the closing group match against Russia for the winning goal.
Probable setup Mexico
Ochoa; Layun, Araujo, Moreno, Reyes; Guardado, Herrera, Santos; Lozano, Hernandez, Vela
