Portugal vs Serbia Prediction & Betting tips
At the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, Portugal takes on Serbia on Monday evening. The home country is under pressure, because in its first duel for the qualification for the European Championship of 2020 the Southern Europeans were stuck against Ukraine on a scoreless draw.
Portugal:
Portugal was by far the parent party last Friday, but Cristiano Ronaldo and associates were unable to bring Ukraine to their knees. The Portuguese made no fewer than eighteen goal attempts, but the Ukrainian closing post Andriy Pyatov distinguished himself with various world rescues. Portugal therefore left the field as a moral loser, although Cristiano Ronaldo remained positive: “I think big in Portugal.”
Portugal had a false start, and therefore cannot afford a new slip in its second European Championship qualifying game. However, the country has often chopped this ax, because in only four of the fifteen European Championship qualifying series, Portugal immediately started to win. Also at the start of the qualification for the 2016 World Cup with a 0-1 defeat against Albania went wrong immediately for Portugal, but we all know how that fairy tale eventually ended.
Serbia:
In contrast to Portugal, Serbia works towards Monday evening with a good feeling. The Balkan country managed to stunt Wednesday evening by keeping Germany in a 1-1 draw in the lion’s den. Afterwards, the international football media mainly talked about the poor play of the Germans, who missed players like Thomas Muller, Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng. However, we must not forget that the Serbs played a great game, with Luka Jovic as the main asset. The only 21-year-old striker from Eintracht Frankfurt was already accurate in the German Bundesliga fifteen times this season and could well become a world-class superstar in the coming years.
This Serbia definitely has the material to be able to surprise, because especially in midfield and in the attack, coach Mladen Krstajic has several nice players at his disposal. Dusan Tadic, Andrija Zivkovic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and the above-mentioned Jovic are all football players for whom you go to the stadium. However, I am much less enthusiastic about De Adelaars’ defense. Defenders such as Aleksandar Kolarov, Matija Nastasic and Branislav Ivanovic are not present for various reasons, while Serbia does not have comparable substitutes. Although Germany barely benefited from this last week, it is questionable whether the relatively inexperienced Serbian rearguard is capable of curbing Cristiano Ronaldo as well.
