RB Leipzig vs Liverpool Prediction & Betting tips
In Budapest, in the Puskas Arena, RB Leipzig and Liverpool will face each other in the eighth finals of the Champions League on Tuesday evening. Given the moderate form of the British, the Germans will see opportunities, even if the first leg cannot be played in their own stadium.
RB Leipzig:
The planning of this first leg was quite a task for the club management of Die Roten Bullen. Due to a strict entry ban imposed by the German government, Liverpool was unable to get to Leipzig. It was up to the German club to find an alternative location, under penalty of a regulatory 0-3 defeat, if the match was canceled. Initially, Copenhagen seemed an option, but it was not possible to get things done. Budapest turned out to be a good alternative. It is not a home game, but Leipzig does not have to travel the world to get to the Hungarian capital.
Last year, the team of trainer Julian Nagelsmann was one of the surprises at the billion dollar ball. Leipzig managed to hibernate in the Champions League – for the first time in (obviously still short) club history. RBL eventually made it to the semi-finals, in which Paris Saint-Germain turned out to be too strong (3-0). In this edition of the CL, Leipzig met PSG again. Together with the French, the Germans qualified for this knockout phase, which was at the expense of Manchester United. Leipzig is currently in good shape. Nagelsmann’s team won its last four domestic competitions.
Liverpool:
Liverpool FC, the 2018/2019 Champions League winner, qualified for this knockout stage by dealing with Atalanta Bergamo, Ajax and Midtylland in the group stage. Jürgen Klopp could choose to give players (partial) rest in certain matches. The other three teams in the group lacked the qualities to punish this. Liverpool took thirteen points and thus claimed first place in the group. In the draw, the Scousers were unlucky to hit one of the stronger numbers two.
What does not make the task any easier is that the top form of the Liverpudlians is currently not at all. Prolongation of the league title seems an illusion after a dramatic first half of February in which Liverpool lost three Premier League games in a row. Last weekend, things went wrong in the away game at Leicester City (3-1). Just like in the lost top match against Manchester City (1-4), goalkeeper Alisson Becker also made a weak impression in Leicester. With The Reds not competing in either of the English cup tournaments, the Champions League is the last chance to make anything of the season. It is obvious that Klopp’s team will have to improve quickly.
