Real Madrid vs Leganes Prediction & Betting tips
As football fans we have barely recovered from all the midweekly spectacle in the Champions League, but for Real Madrid next Saturday in their own Santiago Bernabeu the derby is waiting for fellow countryman Leganes. What does the star formation of Zinedine Zidane have in store for us this time?
Real Madrid:
At the turn of the year, Real Madrid was in a wasted season and the position of trainer Zinedine Zidane hung on a thread. How different is the situation now, however. In their own country, the Royal could not break pots, but outside of their own national borders the Madrilenians are still a direct sensation. Last Wednesday night, the top team set a huge step towards the Champions League final, by treating Bayern Munich on a 1-2 defeat on German soil. The Spaniards can write history this season, as never before has a team three times in a row seized the Cup with the Big Ears.
Of course, at Real Madrid, everything has to give way to the Champions League. The return against Bayern Munich is on schedule for next Tuesday, so it is obvious that Zidane will give his team a snippy day this weekend. For example, ‘oldies’ like Luka Modric and of course Cristiano Ronaldo will almost certainly not take action against Leganes. Zidane will therefore choose a bred B-team on Saturday-evening, although players like Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale will still have a capital on the field. However, a high price tag does not automatically make you a good football player. Bale was not even warm in Munich and is now behind Isco, Lucas Vazquez and Marco Asensio in the pecking order of Zidane. The shape of Karim Benzema is completely dramatic. Although the Frenchman does a lot of dirty work, attackers are mainly settled on goals. Benzema was however only five times accurate this season and in his last ten matches did not get any more than an average shot between the posts per 165 minutes (!). These are scandalous statistics, of course – even my grandmother would be more on target if she were at the point of attack at Real Madrid.
Leganes:
Leganes has been insured for a while now and can therefore work in peace for the next season. The club is working hard, because vice-chairman Felipe Moreno said this week that no less than forty million euros is available this summer to strengthen the selection. He hopes to tempt Asier Garitano into a longer employment in Butarque. The success coach led Los Pepineros from the third level to La Liga, in which they managed to keep themselves fairly easy this season.
With that money, Leganes must in any case try to buy a decent striker, because at the moment the team is struggling with a chronic lack of scoring ability. With only 28 goals, the blue-whites are the second-least-scoring squad by La Liga – only the runners Las Palmas and Malaga are doing even worse. The strong season is mainly due to the solid defense, which is relatively difficult to crack with only 41 opponents. In that respect, last week’s scoreless draw against Real Sociedad’s Deportivo La Coruna was a typical Leganes result.
