Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid Prediction & Betting tips
The champions do the honors: Real Madrid will also start the season in Spain’s La Liga on matchday two, starting with the guest appearance at Real Sociedad.
On Sunday evening at 20:00 p.m., the top game of the second match day will take place in the converted Anoeta, recently called the Reale Arena, where Real Madrid naturally wants to start the new round with a win.
The Basques have the slight advantage that they have already played a competitive game, but last weekend there was only a 1-1 draw at Real Valladolid on Matchday 1.
Real just completed a test game, which was won with a whopping 6-0 against Getafe during the week. So the dress rehearsal seems to have been a success. Unsurprisingly, the reigning champion is considered a favorite by betting providers, as it was before Real Sociedad vs. Real Madrid clarify the odds of the best bookmakers.
The start of the season was not really successful for Real Sociedad: In last year’s relegation candidate Real Valladolid there was only a 1: 1, but you could even be satisfied with the point in retrospect, the Basques were even 0: 1 back, scored only due to a flutter free kick to equalize.
However, Real Sociedad also had to do without key regular players in this game: striker William José was missing as well as star newcomer David Silva, who was able to get La Real from Manchester City on a free transfer. The 34-year-old Silva will succeed Martin Ödegaard at the Basques, whom Real Madrid has ordered back after a one-year – and very successful – loan.
His signing was a real coup for the San Sebastian team, who are now hoping that Silva will at least be able to play against Real Madrid after coming back from isolation and training with his new team for a few days.
On the other hand, captain Mikel Oyarzabal is expected to be in the starting line-up, and his pre-season preparation was disrupted by a positive test, which is why it was only enough for a short stint against Valladolid.
At least in terms of personnel, La Real will be better positioned before the duel with the reigning Spanish champions on Sunday evening, in which the home side are still the underdog, as a look at the bookmaker’s notations shows.
Real Madrid :
As in the previous season, Madrid are entering the season with a guest appearance, but that doesn’t have to be a bad omen: The Los Blancos last defeat in an away game was twelve years ago, in 2008 there was a 1: 2 on the first matchday at Deportivo La Coruña.
Real was also the best away team in the league last season, a big reason why Los Blancos were able to wear the Spanish crown and celebrate their 34th championship title.
Before starting to defend the title, there are only a few question marks in the storm: Eden Hazard will fail, and the offensive players Marco Asensio, Isco, Martin Odegaard, Lucas Vazquez, Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz are not completely fit.
At least Martin Ödegaard completed parts of the team training again, but it is not clear whether it will be enough for a mission against the ex-colleagues. Odegaard was one of Real Sociedad’s outstanding players last season and played a major role in their qualification for the Europa League before Real Madrid ended their two-year loan early and called him back.
As Gareth Bale is about to transfer to his ex-club Tottenham Hotspur, Real coach Zinedine Zidane has some staff problems in attack, Rodrygo, Benzema and Vinicius Jr. are expected to form the attacking trio, or Zidane puts on a 4-4-2 and also places Federico Valverde in midfield – something the French coach did more often in away games last season.
