Rennes vs Celtic Prediction & Betting tips
Stade Rennes and Celtic are directly opposite each other in group E of the Europa League and it promises to be a spectacular duel. Both clubs perform well and they also have fanatic supporter groups. Who makes a good start and grabs the points in the first race of group E.
Stade Rennes:
After the convincing Europa League performance last season, Stade Rennes is back in the European competition. In a group with Jablonec, Astana and Dinamo Kiev, the French came in second and were allowed to play against Real Betis. This competition was also cumulatively won 6-4. In the last sixteen, it hit Arsenal and against all odds Les rouges et noirs won the first match 3-1. Still things went wrong at the Emirates Stadium and Stade Rennes missed out on a hair after the quarterfinals. In the competition it went a lot less and the club was only tenth, but still managed to get a Europa League ticket because of the cup win. They defeated Paris Saint-Germain with a 2-2 score by shooting everything in the penalty shootout.
This season, Stade Rennes also started very strongly. With their 5-3-2 formation with Mbaye Niang and Romain Del Castillo in the point of the attack, they make it difficult for many a team. The first matches were won from Montpellier and Strasbourg, but even more impressive was the home win against Paris Saint-Germain. Nevertheless, the team of Julien Stéphan lost the unbeaten status after losing to Nice and the final rehearsal was scored scoreless against Brest last Saturday. Not a pleasant starting point if you consider that Celtic comes to visit on Thursday evening.
Celtic:
The Bhoys have a rich history both nationally and continental. Still, Celtic seems to have subsided and they no longer perform as well as they used to. Celtic is everyone’s boss in Scotland and is lord and master in the competition and the cup. Last season Celtic won the League Cup, the SFA Cup, the Meisterrunde and the national championship. The only real competition where Celtic had a hard time was the Europa League. In a group with RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg and Rosenborg BK, the Scots finished second and narrowly moved on to the last 32. Furthermore, the team of Brendan Rodgers did not come, as it was eliminated 3-0 by Valencia.
It is up to brand new head coach Neil Lennon to survive the group stage with Stade Rennes, Lazio Roma and Cluj, but it seems to be a difficult task. The club met the weakest opponent in the Champions League qualification on paper. In the seminar, Cluj made the winning one and the dream of the Scots came to the fore. Celtic has gained confidence in the competition, because all five were won in the first five competition matches. James Forrest is a creative attacker who has to take care of the goals or assists, but whether that also succeeds against stronger opponents than Scottish cult clubs is questionable.
