Sassuolo vs Cagliari Prediction & Betting tips
Cagliari is the big surprise of the first half of the season and hopes to continue the strong series at Sassuolo. Looking at the history, it won’t be easy, Cagliari won none of the last five matches.
Sassuolo:
The supporters of Sassuolo do not have to expect that the club will go for European football just like two years ago. Last season the team had a good start with Kevin-Prince Boateng in the front line, after the winter break the level dropped and the top eight quickly disappeared from sight. This season it continues on that foot, only fourteen points were taken from the first fourteen games. Of the last nine games, only two were won (at home against Bologna, away from Verona) and five were lost.
A point of light for Roberto De Zerbi’s team was the draw in Turin last weekend. In the first half, Sassuolo got along well with Juventus. It took a hit in the twentieth minute, but from the first best attack that followed, Boga made the tying run with a subtle marker over Buffon. Shortly after the break the Neroverdi even took the lead after capital blunders from De Ligt and Buffon, after which the rest of the half leaned completely on the defense. The only 18-year-old debutant on goal Stefano Turati made a strong impression. He was well under fire, but only collected one goal, namely a penalty by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cagliari:
Cagliari has been surprising friend and foe for weeks. The team of Roberto Maran lost the first two games of the season, since then it has been undefeated for twelve games. Cagliari managed to beat Napoli, Atalanta and Bologna and to draw against AS Roma and Torino. Last weekend the Sardinians came 0-2 behind against relegation candidate Sampdoria but managed to turn the game around in the last half hour. Radja Nainggolan provided the connection goal in the 69th minute with a shot from 25 meters away, a minute later Quagliarella scored again for the 1-3. In the end, Cagliari would still go the long way. Two goals in two minutes by Joao Pedro made it a draw with fifteen minutes remaining. In the injury time striker Alberto Cerri was allowed to come in and two minutes later he headed a pass from Pellegrini perfectly at the bottom to give the show piece that it deserved.
