Senegal vs Algeria Prediction & Betting tips
This Friday, the time has come, because then Senegal and Algeria will face each other in the Africa Cup final. It promises to be a great match, because with Sadio Mane (Senegal) and Riyad Mahrez (Algeria), both countries have an absolute world top.
Senegal:
Senegal can write history on Friday evening, because the country has never managed to win the Africa Cup. Once before, West Africans managed to reach the final, but in 2002 Cameroon proved too strong after penalties. National coach Aliou Cisse then wore the Senegalese captain’s armband, and now has the opportunity to leave that trauma behind once and for all.
This Senegal is probably the strongest Senegal ever. With Keita Balde, M’baye Niang and of course Sadio Mane, the Lions of Teranga have perhaps the most feared attack on the continent, but the Senegalese rear is strong as well. Senegal only had to cash in this Africa Cup in six games, although it was in the group stage against Algeria (0-1). Algeria is in any case a real fear of Senegal, because the last time the West Africans were in control of the North Africans was in May 2008. Since then, both countries have met five times, resulting in four Algerian victories and a draw. In addition, Cisse cannot have star defender Kalidou Koulibaly in the finals, who serves a suspension. His absence is of course a major loss.
Algeria:
Algeria plays by far the best football of this Africa Cup, so De Woestijnvossen have earned their place in the final. The North Africans were already twelve times accurate in this tournament, compared to only eight goals for Senegal. Also defensively, it is a must in the team of national coach Djamel Belmadi, which so far only had to allow two goals. The Algerians are therefore full of confidence.
All eyes are of course on Riyad Mahrez, the big star of the Algerian team. The playmaker was three times accurate in this Africa Cup, including a wonderful free kick deep in injury time against Nigeria, with which he shot his country to the final for the first time in 29 years. In 1990, Algeria managed to crown itself the African champion for the first time (and so far also for the last time). At the time, however, only eight countries participated in the Africa Cup, while no fewer than 24 participants took part in the start this summer.
