Sevilla vs Villarreal Prediction & Betting tips
A key duel, so we can describe the meeting between Sevilla and Villarreal of next Saturday. After all, both teams are each other’s direct competitors in the fight for European football!
Seville:
Sevilla battled against Bayern Munich this week in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. After the 1-2 defeat of a week and a half ago, the Andalusians on German soil did not get any further than a goalless draw. The troops of trainer Vincenzo Montella can now fully focus on the national competition. Plus of course the final of the Copa del Rey on April 21, in which FC Barcelona will be the opponent.
As good as Sevilla does in the national and European cup competitions this season, the team is so unstable at La Liga. The moderate results cost Eduardo Berizzo just before Christmas, but also under Montella Los Nerviones only muddled with just one point from the last four rounds. With only seven rounds of play ahead, Sevilla not only has to face Archbishop Real Betis, but with only a seventh place, European football hangs on a thread.
You often see that teams that travel far in Europe do moderately in their own country, and Seville is certainly no exception. Especially the lack of scoring ability breaks the team regularly, because with only 39 hits there are no less than nine teams in La Liga. With Steven N’Zonzi, Ever Banega and Franco Vazquez and Joaquin Correa and Pablo Sarabia on the flanks, the team has plenty of creativity and speed, but the team lacks a real goalie thief. The deep strikers Wissam Ben Yedder and Luis Muriel come together no more than thirteen league goals. Maybe it’s time to give Sandro Ramirez, the third man in the pecking order, the chance, even if Montella does not think so for the time being.
Villarreal:
Villarreal must also be careful. The yellow shirts often played great football in the first half, but have dropped back a lot in recent months. The last two league matches were both lost, not to mention clubs that are in a very disappointing season (Malaga-out: 1-0 and Athletic Bilbao-home: 1-3). With a provisional sixth place there is nothing wrong now, but with Girona, Celta de Vigo and of course also Seville there are several hijackers on the coast.
Sevilla-out is for Villarreal so in a sense a final, but nest as the Andalusians also the club from Castilie has great difficulty with scoring. The yellow shirts started the season with the royal couple Cedric Bakambu and Carlos Bacca, but since Bakambu was sold, Bacca also has a hard time. Roger Martinez was presented for many millions and the Enes Ünal rented to Levante was taken back to the Ceramica, but so far neither of them has been able to make the troubled Congolese forget. Trainer Javi Calleja was even so desperate that at one point he even put on wing attacker Denis Cheryshev besides Bacca at the point of attack, but that experiment did not have the desired effect either. Fortunately, the coach can count on a decent rearguard, even though the flush is currently very thin. Alvaro Gonzalez has been suspended this weekend, while Ruben Semedo is still in prison. In addition, Daniele Bonera and Victor Ruiz are questioning Saturday afternoon. The chances are that Canterano Pau Torres will end up at his very first base in La Liga after two short incursions.
