Southampton vs Bournemouth Prediction & Betting tips
Southampton and AFC Bournemouth are neatly in the left-hand row of the Premier League. The two relegation candidates already scored seven points and face each other on Friday evening at St. Mary’s Stadium in the South of England.
Southampton:
Last season, Southampton narrowly ended above the relegation line and The Saints actually had to fight relegation for months. It was expected that Southampton would also have a difficult time in the Premier League this season, but Ralph Hasenhüttl is neatly in tenth place with his team. The Austrian wants to play football with Southampton and so far this has only worked out well at The Saints this season. The number sixteen of last season started the competition with defeats against Burnley (3-0) and Liverpool, but Southampton has already been unbeaten for four games.
In that series of four games, The Saints played in the Premier League against Brighton & Hove Albion (0-2 win), Manchester United (1-1) and Sheffield United (0-1). Also in the Carabao Cup duel with Fulham (0-1 win) the formation of Hasenhüttl remained unbeaten. Last weekend, Southampton won 0-1 against Sheffield United and with that The Saints grabbed three important points when visiting a competitor. It is the first time since March 1986 that Southampton has won three away games in a row without cashing in a goal and that does indicate that The Saints are enjoying themselves at the moment.
AFC Bournemouth:
Just like Southampton, they will not have expected at Bournemouth that the club would achieve so many good results in the first five games of the Premier League. The Cherries also grabbed seven points and are therefore neatly in the left-hand row, despite the fact that manager Eddie Howe has been missing several important players for weeks. Due to injuries from players such as Simon Francis, Dan Gosling and David Brooks, other players suddenly appear on Bournemouth, although especially Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser remain very important for the Howe team.
Wilson scored twice in the 3-1 game against Everton last week and Fraser also put his name on the scoreboard. Wilson scored three times in his last two games on behalf of Bournemouth and his game of the past few weeks was recently rewarded with a call for the English national team, for which Wilson did not play. With one goal and one assist, Fraser is also important for this Bournemouth, that for the rest it has to come from the collective.
