Spain vs England Prediction & Betting tips
On Sunday evening from 20:00, the Olympiastadion stadium in Berlin will host the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England. A final that promises to be very interesting but also spectacular at the same time, each team having some important assets on its side. The two national teams have not faced each other too many times in recent years and the confrontations in the final tournaments are quite rare. Two direct confrontations took place at the European Championship, at Euro 1980 when England won 2-1 in the groups and none of the teams qualified further, and the second confrontation took place at Euro 1996 in the quarter-finals where England won after the penalty kicks because at the end of the 120 minutes of play, the score was equal, 0-0. The most recent confrontations between Spain and England took place in 2018 in the UEFA Nations League, where Spain won 2-1 in the away leg and England won 3-2 in the return leg.
Spain:
Spain is a deserved presence in the finals of Euro 2024, achieving an almost perfect course so far. In the groups, Spain did not concede a single goal in the three confrontations, managing to beat Croatia 3-0 and Italy and Albania 1-0. The first goal conceded by Spain in this final tournament came precisely from its own defender, Robin Le Normand, who opened the scoring in the match against Georgia, after which Spain came back and won 4-1. The match against Germany in the quarter-finals needed extra time to decide the winner and after 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes, Spain scored the qualification goal in the 119th minute through Mikel Merino. The semi-final with France was not at all easy for Spain, which however had the strength to come back after being led 1-0 from the 9th minute, Yamal respectively Olmo, scoring the two goals in an interval of four minutes, 21-25 . For this final, Luis de la Fuente will not have Pedri and Perez in the squad, both players being injured. If he succeeds in imposing himself, Spain will win the European trophy for the 4th time and will become the country with the most trophies, at the moment being tied with Germany, both having won three tournaments.
England:
Even though England started this final tournament more difficult, it respected its favorite status and deservedly reached the final, managing to repeat a small part of Spain’s performance from 2008 and 2012, that of playing two consecutive Euro finals, but Spain managed to win both, while England lost the last final three years ago to Italy, now having a chance to win this tournament for the first time in the second consecutive final. England qualified from the groups with a single victory, 1-0 against Serbia, followed by draws with Denmark, 1-1 and Slovenia 0-0. Probably the weakest match for England in this final tournament was in the round of 16 against Slovakia, where they managed to qualify after extra time, scoring the equalizer in the 95th minute. In the quarter-finals against Switzerland, England were again led by 1 -0, but he managed to get back into the game with the goal scored by Saka in the 80th minute, in order to have a perfect course in the kicks from 11m. In the semi-finals, the scenario was repeated again for England, which was led 1-0 quite quickly from the 7th minute, by the Netherlands, but managed to come back and score the winning goal and the qualification to the final in the 91st minute by entering again on Watkins land. If they win the final, England will win the European trophy for the first time, until now the only tournament won was the 1966 World Cup.
