Sparta Prague vs Plzen Prediction & Betting tips
In the Czech Republic, too, the long wait has finally come to an end these days. On Tuesday there is the eagerly awaited re-start in the country’s highest football league. Six match days are still to be completed before it is clear which six teams will fight for the title or the European cup places in the championship round.
On Wednesday, fans of Czech football can look forward to a real treat from two of the best-known and best teams in the country. Sparta Prague welcomes Viktoria Pilsen. According to the odds, the bookmakers predict an intense duel at eye level, in which no clear favorite can be identified. The quotes are on an almost identical level and therefore promise an exciting match.
In tabular form, the home side are under pressure, which is due to the fact that they are currently only in the disappointing ninth place and absolutely need a good final sprint to still reach the targeted top six. It looks better with the guests from the beer capital. The Victoria is currently in second place, but is determined to reduce the gap to the leader Slavia Prague.
In the direct duel, we see the advantages of the guests, who not only look better in the classification, but also have more individual quality. In addition, the team of coach Kotal has been anything but good at home so far this season. Therefore, between Sparta Prague and Viktoria Pilsen, we think the prognosis for an away win is significantly more interesting and promising than a bet on the host.
Sparta Prague:
Sparta Prague is undoubtedly the most successful football club that Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have. Nevertheless, the development curve of the long-standing industry leader has been pointing downwards in recent years. The last national titles were won in the 2013/2014 season. After that, the athletic club from the capital mostly had the ungrateful task of congratulating rival Slavia or Viktoria Pilsen on their success.
Before the current season, the blue-yellow-red wanted to attack again. After third place in the previous year and unusually high expenditure on the transfer market in the summer of 2019, the topic of the championship was again brought up in public. The reality looks very different after 24 game days.
The record champion is stuck in ninth place in the middle of the classification and is already 15 points behind Viktoria Pilsen and even 23 points less than leader Slavia Prague. Already in February, the 67-year-old Kotal was presented as a new trainer, who previously waved the scepter for the second team. However, there has not yet been any real improvement. In three games under his direction, Sparta recorded a meager two points.
In our opinion, it is therefore quite surprising that between Sparta Prague and Viktoria Pilsen for a tip on the insecure home team, which also has to do without their own fans, there are slightly lower odds than for the better placed guests. The fact that the capital city club won only half of its home games (6-3-3) underpins our impression that a bet on the home side is too risky.
In terms of personnel, the blue-yellow-red team spoke almost exclusively about Martin Hasek this season. However, the team’s top scorer (six goals, four assists) provoked his departure in winter after deliberately forgetting his travel documents for the departure to the training camp in Spain at home.
After a long back and forth there was no buyer for the 24-year-old, so he presented the association with a unilateral termination in March and has been managed without a club since then. Without Hasek, almost the entire offensive burden lies on the shoulders of Guelor Kanga, who with ten goals and five assists is the new hope for the traditional club.
Viktoria Pilsen:
With five championships (most recently in 2018), Viktoria Pilsen became the most successful Czech team of the past decade. In addition to the national titles, the blue-reds also qualified three times for the group phase of the Champions League and occasionally caused a sensation there. The reigning runners-up would very much like to return to the big international stage in the coming season, although for that either first or second place in the final accounts of the Fortuna Liga must jump out.
According to the current status, however, there are many indications that Coach Adrian Gula’s team, who has been in office since the beginning of 2020, will achieve this goal. In second place, Pilsen currently has 50 points, ten more than the toughest pursuer Jablonec. In order to squint towards the championship, however, you need an optimal finish and one or two slips by the leader Slavia Prague.
The red and blue have to pass their first endurance test on Wednesday evening. The fact that the odds for an away win are so high is surprising in that the more heavily occupied guests under the direction of Coach Gula have so far won all four league games.
Even if these matches all took place before the compulsory break, it can be assumed that the second best away team in the league (5-4-2), who also scored the second most goals and conceded the second few goals, has hardly lost any confidence. We can understand the bookmakers’ assessment due to the uncertain shape after the long break, and yet the Sparta Prague vs. Viktoria Pilsen forecast in second place.
Personally, the title aspirant seems to have weathered the long break well. All top performers are available for the important comeback game on Wednesday evening. Only Ubong Ekpai has to fit. As a result, the Slovakian instructor of the Victoria will probably not strive for many changes compared to the winning formation from February / March.
