Spezia vs Sassuolo Prediction & Betting tips
Spezia plays her first ever top-level match against Sassuolo. This will not happen in the home stadium Alberto Picco as it does not meet the standards of the Serie A. Instead, Spezia plays her first home games in Cesena until the renovations to the home stadium are finished.
Founded in 1906, Spezia first played in Serie B in 1929 but never managed to reach the top Italian division. Remarkably, it once became ‘champion of Italy’. In 1944, an alternative competition was held due to the war and Spezia eventually won it after defeating Torino in the final. It was not until 2002 that the championship was awarded to Spezia, although it is not seen as official but as decorative. The tricolor badge on the kit is a reminder of this title.
The current Spezia team has a number of well-known names. For example, Jeroen Zoet was recently bought from PSV and this week it was announced that former Groningen defender Julien Chabot is borrowed from Sampdoria. Furthermore, Diego Farias is hired from Cagliari, Cristian Dell’Orco is borrowed from Sassuolo and striker Diego Farias is borrowed from Cagliari. So there are a number of players with experience at the highest level present in the selection, but given the player material it would be extremely clever if the club from La Spezia managed to avoid relegation.
Sassuolo scored no less than 69 goals in 38 games last season and we can expect many goals this season. The great talents Manuel Locatelli and Jeremie Boga have remained and virtually no players have left the team of trainer Roberto De Zerbi. Last season the neroverdi finished in a handsome eighth place and if the selection remains intact for the remainder of this transfer period, the team will again be a major contender for a place in the left row.
In the opening game of this season, the goal of scoring failed to materialize. Although Sassuolo had the better chances in the home game against Cagliari, it fell behind in the 77th minute when Giovanni Simeone was released completely. Only at the tenth shot on goal did Sassuolo finally find the net himself, Mehdi Bourabia took care of the 1-1 with a measured free kick just before the final signal and gave Sassuolo the first point.
