Sweden W vs Canada W Prediction & Betting tips
In the Parc des Princes, two equal opponents seem to face each other in the eighth finals. Sweden and Canada also faced each other in the last two editions of the Algarve Cup. Last year Sweden won 3-1, this year Canada took revenge by beating the Swedes in the extension.
Sweden:
Sweden was second in group F, as expected, behind number one in the world America. In the first game of the group stage, the Scandinavians had to go deep against Chile. Despite a huge field prevalence and 25 shots, the Chilean women kept the zero for a long time and it came out on the counter every now and then. Only in the 83rd minute attacker Kosovare Asllani broke the spell after being most alert to a punch. Deep in injury time, substitute Madelen Janogy also signed for the 0-2, with which Sweden still got what it deserved. After this, they competed against the ugly duckling in the Thailand pool, which had already been beaten 13-0 by America. The Blågult also seemed to be working on the goal difference when it came to 2-0 within twenty minutes. After this, production stagnated somewhat and it remained at ‘only’ 5-1, so that only a profit in the direct confrontation with the United States would suffice for group profit. The Swedish women also proved unable to withstand the reigning world champion and lost 0-2.
Just like last World Cup, the yellow and blue do not seem good enough to play a leading role this year. Then Sweden just managed to reach the last sixteen as number three in the group stage and lost the first knockout match of Germany. If Sweden wins this match, the Germans will again be the opponent in the next round.
Canada:
Canada was there early with professional women’s football but rarely managed to convince at world championships. Between 1995 and 2011 the tournament ended no less than four times after the group stage, once Canada reached the semi-final. At the 2015 World Cup, the Maple Leafs finally came through the group again. After finishing first in a group including the Netherlands, the fairy tale ended in the quarterfinals against England.
Also this edition the number five of the FIFA ranking came through the group. This time it had to tolerate the Orange Lioness. In the first two games against Cameroon and New Zealand, the North Americans dominated, but the goal production was a bit disappointing. They won 1-0 against Cameroon, the ban was only broken in the second half against New Zealand and they won 2-0.
The most important assignment for national coach Kenneth Heiner-Moller is to find the perfect attack partner (s) for 36-year-old attacker Christine Sinclair. The record international played 285 times for her country and scored a total of 182 goals. She is therefore only two goals away from the all-time top scorer in international women’s football Abby Wambach. With Jessie Fleming, the experienced Sinclair seems to have a good partner in crime, the 21-year-old was responsible for the opening goal against New Zealand. Sinclair himself signed for the only Canadian goal in the 2-1 loss against the Netherlands.
