Torino vs Atalanta Prediction & Betting tips
Torino was allowed to kick off the new season last week but was left empty-handed. For Atalanta, the season will only start this weekend, as they still played in the Champions League in August. Can we expect another spectacular season from the Bergamo stunt team?
Torino:
Torino finished in a disappointing 16th place last season, just five points above the relegation zone. Trainers Moreno Longo and Walter Mazzari both failed to get the team going, for that reason the club management has decided to start the new season with trainer Marco Giampaolo. The league debut under the man who coached AC Milan last year was not too spectacular. A visit to Fiorentina actually created only one good chance that attacking midfielder Alejandro Berenguer shot at Fio’s goalkeeper. Goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu was the best man for the Turin team, but he also could not prevent Fiorentina from scoring the only goal of the game ten minutes before the end.
Anyone who looks at Il Toro’s line-up sees few reasons why the team can compete for the left row this season. The only new player is Karol Linetty. The Polish midfielder is a great asset but will not be the impetus needed to finish much higher in the rankings. Striker Simone Zaza scored only six times in 26 games last season and again disappointed against Fiorentina. In the sixtieth minute, he was able to put colleague Andrea Belotti free in front of the goalkeeper in a two-for-one situation, but he gave a much too hard pass that wasted the best chance of the match. This season will therefore also depend a lot on the class of striker Belotti and goalkeeper Sirigu.
Atalanta:
Atalanta had another top season last season with a third place in the Serie A, in addition, the team of Gian Piero Gasperini managed to advance directly to the quarterfinals during the first participation in the Champions League ever. The fairytale seemed to last even longer as Atalanta took a 1-0 lead in this quarter-final in the 26th minute via Mario Pasalic. In injury time, Paris Saint Germain came alongside after all by scoring two goals in three minutes.
Despite the fact that many La Dea players have been in the spotlight last season, the selection remained intact. Timothy Castagne was sold to Leicester but was not one of the main pawns, Cristiano Piccini from Valencia is hired for his place with an option to buy. In addition, Cristian Romero (Juventus), Aleksei Miranchuk (Lokomotiv Moscow) and Sam Lammers (PSV) joined the selection. Nevertheless, Gasperini seems to be starting with only familiar names this weekend. New signings Romero and Miranchuk are respectively suspended and injured and Piccini and Lammers still have to put up with a few players in the pecking order. Jose Palomino and Duvan Zapata have both recovered from the corona virus, the first eleven are expected this weekend. Of course Papu Gomez has also been given a seat, the Argentinian technician was voted Serie A’s best midfielder last season and declined last month for a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia.
The only top player missing from the Bergamo goals machine this weekend is Josip Ilicic. The Slovenian seems to have become depressed during the lockdown and was therefore missing during the final phase of the Champions League. Fortunately, he has been back in training for two weeks and so we can soon see him shine again in Serie A.
