Tottenham vs Newcastle Prediction & Betting tips
Three days after Tottenham Hotspur won 2-1 at Watford’s Wembley, another race is scheduled in the biggest stadium in England. This time Newcastle United is the opponent of Spurs.
Tottenham Hotspur:
Tottenham Hotspur is third in the Premier League and there seems to be little change in the coming months. The Spurs already have a seven point lead on Arsenal and Chelsea, while Tottenham has two points less than Manchester City. The Citizens, however, have a much broader selection on paper than the Spurs and, moreover, a much better target balance. All in all, Tottenham will probably have to content themselves with a third place, but the Spurs will certainly not be dissatisfied with that. Tottenham is short for the championship, but if the Spurs are for the Champions League then they have done fine.
However, Tottenham has been a bit out of shape in recent weeks. The Spurs have recently been eliminated in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup and Tottenham lost 0-1 to Manchester United in the Premier League. Wednesday evening the Spurs won from Watford. But the victory was not convincing. For example, Tottenham even trailed 0-1 to Watford and the Spurs only managed to turn that deficit into the final phase. In the eightieth minute Heung-Min Son was responsible for the equalizer and seven minutes later Fernando Llorente gave his team the full booty. At Tottenham the counter now stands at 54 points after 24 duels and that is a record for the Spurs. The old record was fifty points after 24 league matches and it does show what kind of season the Spurs go through.
Newcastle United:
Normally, a club like Newcastle United would travel to Tottenham Hotspur with the tail between its legs. This is different this weekend. That has everything to do with the most recent game of The Magpies. Like all other Premier League-teams, Newcastle United midweeks also came into action. For the team of Rafael Benítez, the home game against Manchester City was on the program and The Magpies seemed to have no chance. Nothing turned out to be less true, as Newcastle United took the full booty against the Dutch champion: 2-1. The Magpies were behind 0-1 in no time, but they scored twice in the second half and stunted Manchester City.
Because of the victory, Newcastle United has left the relegation zone for a while. The Magpies grabbed three bonus points against Manchester City and the number of points now stands at 24. That’s five points more than the teams under the relegation streak and in the coming weeks Newcastle United can still get some points. For example, Burnley and Huddersfield Town will soon be visiting St. James’ Park and in those relegation competitions the Benitez men will always have to take the full prize. If that does not happen, the victory on Tuesday night’s Manchester City will also be worth a lot less for The Magpies. Incidentally, on Thursday afternoon, Newcastle United broke the club record by tapping 23 million euros for the Paraguayan playmaker Miguel Almirón. He comes from Frank de Boer’s Atlanta United.
