Tranmere vs Watford Prediction & Betting tips
The replay in the third main round of this year’s FA Cup was scheduled last week. However, torrential rains caused the game between the third division side Tranmere and Watford to be postponed from the Premier League. This resulted in a chaos of appointments, because the next weekend the games in the round of 32 are on the program.
A shift in the tightly packed schedule is not possible and so the replay will be inserted on Thursday evening before the winner will be back on Sunday and receive the Red Devils from Manchester United in front of a home crowd
The shift may well play into the cards of the underdog from the third division. In contrast to the Premier League, there was no English week in League One. The Hornets were still in action at Aston Villa in Birmingham on Tuesday evening and don’t have to compete in Tranmere less than 48 hours later.
The significantly higher quality still makes the guests appear as clear favorites. The game starts on Thursday at 19:45 p.m.
Tranmere:
In recent years, the club managers at Tranmere Rovers have reversed the trend. The former championship club gradually sank into the lowlands of English football. In the 2014/15 season, there was even the relegation to the fifth-rate National League, for the first time in 94 years Tranmere was no longer represented in professional football.
After three years in the House of Commons, head coach Micky Mellon made it back to league four. Thanks to the play-off mode, Tranmere continued to soar and, despite being sixth in League Two, fixed the renewed ascent.
For the first time since the 2013/14 season, the club is again active in third class. However, the current season is clearly dominated by the relegation battle. After two ascents, the club currently seems to have reached the ceiling. In League One, Tranmere is in 21st place after 25 games. However, the gap to the saving bank is only three points. In addition, the Mellon team played two players less than the MK Dons (currently 16th).
In the current calendar year there was not much reason for Tranmere to celebrate. The last full success was on December 21st. The third division has been unsuccessful for eight competitive matches across all competitions. The appearance on Vicarage Road including three away goals was all the more surprising. In League One, Tranmere has so far only scored nine goals in twelve guest appearances.
The third division club has definitely earned this highlight in front of their home crowd and is now flirting with another surprise. However, Watford will not make the mistake again and shift down a gear too soon. Given the current form of the home side, we consider the risk of a tip on the home side between Tranmere and Watford to be too great.
Watford:
The headlong flight of Hornets head coach Nigel Pearson experienced a severe damper in the English week. With promoted Aston Villa, Sir Elton John’s favorite club led 1-0 thanks to a Deeney goal, before there were two bitter goals in the relegation streak. The Villans fixed their happy victory late and made Watford slip to a relegation zone.
Nevertheless, the club from nearby London is currently operating with a proudly swollen chest. In many places the red and yellow have already been dubbed fix relegations. Autumn was catastrophic and Nigel Pearson is already the third head coach after the necessary results were missed by both Javi Gracia and Quique Sanchez Flores.
Under Pearson, the step out of the crisis was impressively achieved. The defeat at the Villans was the first defeat after the 0-2 win against Liverpool in the Pearson debut. In between there were four wins and three draws for the eleven from Vicarage Road.
The current form undoubtedly speaks for the home side, who will by no means compete on Thursday evening at Merseyside in the best possible way. Compared to the game at Aston Villa, Pearson will change in almost every position. Christian Kabasele, Andre Gray, Ignacio Pussetto, top talent Joao Pedro or Domingos Quina are moving into the team and should fix the top game against the Red Devils.
The fact that Watford was on Tuesday night should not be overestimated. Fatigue will not matter to the players on the field, so we have no major concerns about predicting the Premier League club in the FA Cup replay between Tranmere and Watford on Thursday.
