Tunisia vs Angola Prediction & Betting tips
Many African football experts expect no offensive spectacle in the coming weeks, but rather games in which unnecessary wasting of forces will come first. For years, the African Cup in January and February was a nice pastime for many football fans. In 2019, the African continental championship will be held for the first time in European summer.
The days when important players are absent in regular championship operation are now a thing of the past. In addition, the starting field was raised from 16 to 24 and thus adapted to the mode of the European Championship. These decisions brought some criticism, because on the one hand the level due to the larger field of participants allegedly decreases and due to the heat no offensive style of play is expected. The first games were quite a confirmation for the critics. Group E will open on Monday evening with the duel between Tunisia and Angola.
Compared to other groups, this group E seems to be a relatively simple group. The two group winners and the four best group thirds complete the round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations. Thus, even a single victory might be enough to reach the knockout stage in Egypt.
In the first game in this group, Tunisia against Angola is the clear favorite according to current odds. On paper, the North Africans definitely have the much stronger squad available. However, there were already surprising results in the first matches (victory of Uganda against DR Congo). Nevertheless, between Tunisia and Angola the prognosis on the favorites seems to be an interesting option. The game starts on Monday evening at 18 o’clock.
Tunisia:
The Tunisian national football team has won the Africa Cup of Nations only once, but is definitely one of the stronger teams on the black continent. The only title win was in 2004, when Tunisia could take advantage of the home advantage. Since the finals in 1994 (also in their own country), the Eagles of Carthage qualified for every finals. At World Championships Tunisia 2018 was first seen again after two absences. However, the comeback on the big stage was short-lived and after two defeats against England and Belgium, the end was sealed.
After the early departure head coach Nabil Maaloul had to vacate his chair and interim took over Faouzi Benzarti. Alain Giresse has been responsible for the Eagles of Carthage since December last year. In the first five international matches under his wing, the results were quite passable. Four of the five internationals were won (among others against Croatia), only against Algeria, there was a 1-0 defeat to cope. With these results, the current number 28 of the FIFA World Ranking List can compete with a broad chest in Egypt.
In the squad of Tunisia are 14 legionaries and nine players, who are in the home under contract. Big names like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Naiby Keita can not be found in Tunisia, but there are some with players like Wahbi Khazri (AS Saint-Etienne), Ellyes Skihri (Montpelllier HSC) and Naim Sliti (Dijon FCO) Actors who play a very good role in the French Ligue 1. In general, the offensive is qualitatively much better equipped than the defensive.
Angola:
The 2006 World Cup in Germany has a special place in Angolan football – after all, this was the only World Cup finals in which the “Palancas Negras” were represented. The Africans presented themselves quite passable, could reach two draws and only had to give Portugal just beaten.
Thirteen years later, the team from the West Coast of Africa is a long way from such results. In the current FIFA World Ranking, Angola is only 122nd. Successes have been few and far between in recent years – at the 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, Angola was just the spectator role. Angola will be represented for the eighth time in the finals in 2019 – the quarter-final has been the maximum of emotion for the Angolan team so far.
The qualification for the current final round was extremely close. Only thanks to the better goal difference over Mauritania Angola could fix the ticket to Egypt. In the squad of head coach Srdjan Vasiljevic are indeed eleven legionnaires, but the very big stars can not be found. Wilson Eduardo (Sporting Braga), Bastos (Lazio Roma) and Bruno Gaspar (Sporting Lisbon) are arguably the only three players who could be familiar to European football fans. All in all, the squad of Angola is clearly below those of Tunisia.
In 2019, the Angolan national football team was rarely seen. So far, Angola only played two international matches in this calendar year – but these could each be won. In March, they beat Botswana 1-0. The dress rehearsal for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt took place against Guinea-Bissau; this game ended with a 2-0 win for Angola. Tunisia, however, is a much stronger opponent. Accordingly, these two victories must be judged with caution. Qualitatively, there are not really arguments that would justify a bet on outsiders between Tunisia and Angola.
