Valencia vs Atl. Madrid Prediction & Betting tips
The Mestalla will be the setting for the meeting between Valencia and Atletico Madrid in LaLiga on Saturday afternoon. Atletico Madrid is in top form, but is facing major personnel problems. Can Valencia benefit from Madrid’s headaches?
Valencia:
With twelve points from ten rounds and a provisional ninth place, Valencia is doing reasonably well. Coach Javi Gracia, appointed last summer, actually wanted to surrender his contract after a few weeks, after no replacements were obtained for departed club icons such as Rodrigo Moreno, Ferran Torres and Dani Parejo. At the insistence of the players, he still remained loyal to Valencia, although it is clear that Los Che cannot mix with this player material in the Spanish sub-top.
However, you cannot deny willpower from Valencia. Last week, the club managed to reach a 2-2 draw after a 2-0 deficit after visiting Alaves. Captain and Spanish international Jose Gaya, however, was injured, and will be out of circulation for at least a month. That means that former PSV left back Toni Lato will probably get a chance. He was not successful at all in Eindhoven, but hopes to be able to pull his career out of the doldrums again at Valencia.
Atletico Madrid:
Within the traditional top three of Spain, Atletico Madrid is often seen as a little bit, but that could change this season. FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are having a hard time and are constantly missing points, while Diego Simeone’s men just do what they have to do. Los Colchoneros are the only club in LaLiga still unbeaten, and have all won their last five league matches. The season is of course still long, but the eight-point lead over FC Barcelona is particularly impressive.
Yet it is not all roses and moonshine for Atletico Madrid. In the Champions League, with only five points from four group matches, the red and white fare a lot less well, while on Tuesday evening the very tough away match against Bayern Munich is just around the corner. In addition, the already narrow selection of the Madrid people is currently plagued by injuries and corona, as a result of which Simeone only had seventeen players from the A-selection at his disposal against Lokomotiv Moscow (0-0) last Wednesday. The Argentinian will also have to improvise again in and against Valencia.
