Valencia vs Chelsea Prediction & Betting tips
The meeting between Valencia and Chelsea on Wednesday evening in Group H of the Champions League promises to be an absolute squatter. Both teams together with Ajax are on seven points, while only the best two clubs will spend the winter in the European champions ball. The winner of this battle in the Mestalla is doing excellent business, while the loser will most likely have to settle for third place in the group.
Valencia:
At Valencia it has been restless for the entire season. That is mainly the fault of chairman Peter Lim, who decided two months ago to put the immensely popular success coach Marcelino on the street because of a disagreement. You can wonder if that was wise, because under successor Albert Celades, the club from the orange city in the Spanish Primera Division is currently no further than a disappointing tenth place. Also in the Champions League the team threatens to miss the boat. After four rounds in group H, Valencia is on seven points together with Ajax and Chelsea, but has been sentenced to third place on the basis of a less mutual result. From a Spanish point of view, the home game against Chelsea is therefore a real final that must be won.
Valencia’s main problem is the enormous volatility. The Spaniards made an impression with good victories over Chelsea (0-1) and Lille (4-1), but also regularly fell through the ice this season. Since the appointment of Celades, the team has managed to win only four of its eleven league matches in its own country, and has already lost three times. The Primera Division is indeed one of the strongest competitions in the world, but with such a balance you are simply not a Champions League material. Also last weekend, visiting Real Betis (2-1), the weather was not very good. It is not made easy for Celades either, because due to an injury wave he will probably have to miss at least five basic players again on Wednesday evening.
Chelsea:
Chelsea is a feast for the eyes this season. Since the arrival of Roman Abramovich in 2003, the English are of course mainly known as a rather perky club, but due to a transfer ban, The Blues was not allowed to make purchases last summer. The new coach Frank Lampard therefore looked around in his own youth academy, and Chelsea has done so well. The English title is probably not going to Stamford Bridge, but with great talents such as Fikayo Tomori, Reece James, Mason Mount and of course Tammy Abraham the future looks very bright.
Chelsea is also doing well in the Champions League, because second place is currently for the English on the basis of a better mutual result. With a win, Chelsea is almost certain of a place in the next round. Also a draw would not be wrong, as the club from London will compete in its last group match at home in two weeks against the already eliminated Lille. A defeat, however, could have fatal consequences, certainly if Ajax manages to take full advantage of a visit to Lille. So there is an awful lot at stake for Chelsea on Wednesday-evening, who saw a series of six league-victories in a row come to an end with a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City last weekend. A big setback, although Lampard could still be satisfied with the performance of his young team.
