Valencia vs Lille Prediction & Betting tips
The interests are huge, when Valencia takes on Tuesday night in Group H of the Champions League in its own Mestalla against Lille. Both the Spaniards and the French have to win to keep their European dream alive.
Valencia:
Two weeks ago Valencia was fast on the road to a very important victory in and against Lille, but deep in injury time, Lille substitute Nanitamo Ikonde canceled the opening goal of Valencia striker Denis Cheryshev: 1-1. That was a cold shower for the Spaniards, who therefore remain on four points and therefore have to win on Tuesday evening to seize second place in group H of the Champions League.
However, that will be quite a chore, as today’s Valencia is no longer a shadow of the team that managed to seize fourth place in La Liga last season. Success trainer Marcelino had to pack his bags because of a difference with chairman Peter Lim, but under successor Albert Celades Los Che is just messing around. Thanks to a difficult 1-2 victory over low-flyer Espanyol, fans of the club from the orange city finally cheered again last weekend, but the current thirteenth place in La Liga is of course Valencia unworthy. The protests against Lim’s policy have since subsided, but it is clear that the atmosphere in and around the Mestalla has been lost in recent months.
Lille:
For Lille, too, the interests are huge. The French only managed to gain one point from their first three group matches, so they have to win on Tuesday evening to keep their hopes alive at least in third place. In addition, coach Cristophe Galtier’s team managed to win only one of her last seven official games.
Lille’s confidence is currently on the back burner, although Les Dogues is not so bad in fifth place in the Ligue 1. Last weekend, however, the Northern French lost 2-1 to Olympique Marseille, even though Galtier called the calamity in fact over itself by, among other things, leaving Victor Oshimen out of the basics. The young Nigerian showed himself with seven goals in twelve league duels a worthy replacement for Nicolas Pepe, who moved to Arsenal for a lot of money last summer. The rest of the team is a bit disappointing, partly because potential star players such as Renato Sanches and Timothy Weah are still in the rag basket.
