West Ham vs Birmingham Prediction & Betting tips
Although West Ham United and Birmingham City are both eliminated in the Carabao Cup, they get a second chance in the other English cup tournament: the FA Cup. The oldest cup tournament in Europe is a great opportunity for smaller teams to reach European football. A preview!
West Ham United:
The first game that West Ham United played in 2019 was not too good. At the London Stadium, the runs were shared with Brighton & Hove Albion after a 2-2 draw. As was the case in the past seasons, West Ham again had a hard time with The Seagulls. Base places for the recovered Marko Arnautovic and Pablo Zabaleta were not enough to dominate Brighton in the first half. The second half, started with Andy Carroll, Lucas PĂ©rez, started dramatically for The Hammers. The visiting party scored twice in two minutes and again a defeat against Brighton appeared in the making for the Manuel Pellegrini team.
However, the game image changed when Mark Noble joined Pedro Obiang. The captain of West Ham determined the game and with a beautiful pass was the declarant on the striker of Arnautovic. Less than a minute later, it was again the Austrian who managed to find the net and thus tied the score. In his second base place, the striker showed once again that he was of inestimable value to The Hammers after his injury. Despite several chances in the remainder of the game, West Ham did not start winning the new year.
Wednesday night Samir Nasri was sitting on the bench at West Ham for the first time. The French midfielder signed a contract with the club from East London until the end of the season. After a year of not being allowed to play football in connection with a doping suspension, Nasri seems to have been able to make his first minutes against Birmingham City for a long time. There is also a big chance that several youth players, including Nathan Holland and Xande Silva, will make their appearance at the London Stadium (as invaders).
Birmingham City:
Birmingham City is doing well this season in the Championship and hopes to be able to continue that strong form to the FA Cup. After 26 rounds of play The Blues are in a very deserving eighth position. After two very meager seasons in which both times narrowly relegated relegation to the League One, the team of Garry Monk can now secretly hope for promotion to the Premier League. For promotion, Birmingham could be at the highest level in England for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
Last week, Birmingham visited Sheffield Wednesday for the impressive series in which it is being held. Only three of the last 22 league matches were lost. At Hillsborough it was Che Adams who shot Birmingham on the same level after an early opening goal from The Owls. For Adams, it was already his twelfth goal of the season. One of his competitors in the front, Omar Bogle, is unlikely to be able to play in London in connection with a hamstring injury. Monk has expressed his hope that Kristian Pedersen can make minutes at the London Stadium. The Danish defender missed the last few weeks because of an ankle injury, but is probably traveling to East London.
