Wolfsburg vs Bayer Leverkusen Prediction & Betting tips
Crisis in Wolfsburg? What reads at first glance like another typical BILD headline about the car giant Volkswagen, can now be transferred almost to the resident in the Autostadt football Bundesliga. And that although not even two weeks ago, an awkward situation for the VfL seemed as far away as once a chancellorship of Sigmar Gabriel.
The Lower Saxony after 13 unbeaten competitive games to kick off this season almost indomitable, it hailed last three defeats in three different competitions in a row. In particular, the 1: 6 swatter in the DFB Cup and the 1: 3 during the week in the Europa League at home against Gent seem to have left their first mark. For this reason, it is also understandable that between Wolfsburg and Leverkusen relatively high odds are offered to a home win.
The arguments are not only in the weakness of the wolves, but also in the demonstrated strength of the guests from the Rhineland. The Werkself beat surprisingly against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday in the Champions League, holding on to chances of a place in the last sixteen. In the Bundesliga, however, the Werkself is waiting since four encounters on a threesome. A Wolfsburg vs. Leverkusen forecast on the game outcome is therefore difficult.
Instead, we are dedicated to the market for the first half, and watch attentive observers that Bundesliga games with VfL participation last four times in succession with a goalless draw in the break. Because the Glasner-Elf after the many goals conceded probably the focus primarily on the defensive, we decide in the match Wolfsburg against Leverkusen for another tip to a 0-0 at half time.
Wolfsburg:
The first two months of the new season went really well for VfL Wolfsburg. Possibly even “too good”, because the already mentioned series of 13 undefeated games in a row inevitably leads to an increase in the expectations in the environment, the pressure increases as a result, but at the same time other teams develop in the course of time.
In any case, until the very end, we did not lose the feeling that the appearance of the supposedly good Wolfsburg results was deceptive. Despite all the euphoria and joy about the myth of invincibility, it was often forgotten that numerous draws prevented even better yields. In addition, the offensive continues to be a major construction site.
In the Bundesliga, for example, the Lower Saxony scored more than one goal only on the first two matchdays. However, coach Oliver Glasner’s side have been scoreless at home against FC Augsburg and in Dortmund. With only eleven hits, the Green-Whites make the most innocent attack of the entire top half of the table.
Then, when the defensive does not work as it did at the start of the season, the ambitious wolves are on lost posts. This was most evident in the second half. After 45 minutes, the Autostadt would have conceded only one goal in the past three defeats; after 90 minutes, however, there were eleven (!).
Consequently, between Wolfsburg and Leverkusen a successful tip on a good defensive performance of the home side in the first round is anything but unlikely. In the recent four Bundesliga games with VfL participation fell in the first half, no hits, which serves as an additional statistical argument.
What should also not be completely ignored is the fact that the hosts had one day less to regenerate. Given that the wolves will play the sixth competitive match within three weeks, it will be even more important to start well and regain their self-confidence with a decent defensive performance.
With the exception of the long-term injured Camacho, Casteels, Ginczek, Schlager and Mehmedi, all players should be available. Short-term injuries, however, are never completely ruled out after a Thursday game. Rotation options, the Austrian coach has some. It will be interesting to see if he will make use of this important home game.
Leverkusen:
Maybe that was exactly what the team of Bayer Leverkusen once needed. Not only since this season, the Werkself is praised by many experts on the green clover. However, not necessarily due to consistently strong performance, but much more because of the undoubted quality of each player.
Also in the current season, the Rhinelanders lag behind the original expectations again. Only 15 out of 30 possible points could Bayer 04 win so far. Four wins face three draws and three defeats. The positive thing, however, is that the Leverkusen side are ninth in the table “only” four points behind Borussia Dortmund (2nd) and therefore have the top group firmly in the sights.
But back to our initial statement. Of course, this meant a 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid last Wednesday in the Champions League, which allowed the Werkself to hope again for the winter in Europe. Havertz, Volland, Bellarabi and Co. provided an extremely strong performance and earned the three unexpected counters against the Spanish top team.
However, it must be noted that the game against the physically strong Madrid has certainly cost one or two grains of energy. Consequently, we would not bet that the team of Peter Bosz on Sunday in Wolfsburg from the beginning again full throttle on the offensive. In the foreign, Bayer did a bit harder anyway.
Although of the four away games, the two could be made victorious, but in the other two defeats in Dortmund and Frankfurt, the Werkself remained without their own goals. In general, 15 goals scored after ten match days is a value that is definitely a disappointment given the strong individual players. Between Wolfsburg and Leverkusen a prognosis on a goal-poor first half thus also in relation to the guests is not presumptuous.
Lars Bender and Daley Sinkgraven are injured. Leon Bailey continues to sit a red snap. Otherwise, all men – stand now – ready for use. It is quite possible, however, that Peter Bosz will decide by agreement with the Medical Staff who he will send to the pitch in the sixth competitive match within three weeks.
