Zaragoza vs Mallorca Prediction & Betting tips
In the sixteenth finals of the Spanish Copa del Rey, first-class Real Mallorca will visit second-class Real Zaragoza. The priority of both teams is the competition, although a successful ‘cup run’ is of course always welcome.
Real Zaragoza:
The older VW members among us will probably remember the heyday of Real Zaragoza at the end of the last century, such as when the team from the North-East of Spain in 1995 with players such as Gustavo Poyet and Juan Esnaider at the expense of Feyenoord, Chelsea and Arsenal, among others, seized the then European Cup II. The last seven seasons, however, the blue and white are active in the Segunda Division, the Spanish second class. With a provisional fourth place, Real Zaragoza, however, is on track to participate in the play-offs for promotion to LaLiga.
Real Zaragoza had enough rest in the run-up to the cup match against Real Mallorca, because last weekend’s away match against Mirandes was canceled due to heavy rainfall. Fernandez has already hinted that he will save his best players for the competition. That means that Tuesday night the menos habituales, or the substitutes, will come into action. The local Periodico de Aragon is counting on key players like Cristian Alvarez, Carlos Vigaray and Luis Suarez to have a snippet night.
Real Mallorca:
Real Mallorca did excellent business last Sunday in the Spanish relegation battle by beating Valencia with a whopping 4-1. Trainer Vicente Moreno was naturally delighted, but didn’t count himself as rich: “We have some air again, but we have to keep grabbing points.”
For Real Mallorca, too, the competition is of course more important than the Copa del Rey. In addition, the island team has only 53 hours to recover from the squatter against Valencia, something it immediately complained about after the draw. The red shirts will therefore take on a B-team, as they did in the previous cup rounds against the four-class classics El Alamo and Zamora (both 0-1 win). This coming weekend the heavy away game against Real Sociedad in San Sebastian is waiting.
