Zhodino vs Energetik-BGU Prediction & Betting tips
After three match days, a table naturally does not have much meaning, but the view of the current classification in the Belarusian Vysshaya League is quite surprising. Neither champion Dynamo Brest (10th) nor the series champion of past days, BATE Borisov (13th), are currently in the top field.
The surprising league leader is Energetik-BGU from Minsk, who are the only team with the maximum points after three games. An away game is on the agenda this weekend and there will be a duel between Torpedo Zhodino and Energetik-BGU.
The home side are one of no less than six teams that won two of the first three games and thus have six points. Torpedo Zhodino suffered their first defeat last weekend.
Although the guests are equipped with a lot of confidence after three wins en suite, the bookmakers do not believe that the series will continue. The game starts on Saturday afternoon at 14 p.m.
Torpedo Zhodino:
The Belarusian cup winner from 2016 ended the previous season with 45 points in sixth place in the table. The orange-blacks disappointed especially in the finish of the season and lost fourth place in the last games. However, this would not have been enough to be represented internationally in summer 2020.
The club hoped for an upswing after the club’s management decided to change coaches at the end of September. Successful Belshina trainer (set the course for the rise of Belshina) Yuri Puntus was recruited. His record for the rest of 2019 was anything but positive with two wins, one draw and five losses.
After the calendar year 2019 started with two quarter-finals against Shakhtar Soligorsk (0-1 each), the 59-year-old came under increasing pressure. A perfect start to the season with two 1-0 victories against Soligorsk (the revenge for the cup-off was successful) and against Puntus ‘Exklub Belshina, however, caused cheers in the middle-class camp in Belarusian football.
After the six points from the first two league games, the Puntus team had to surrender 0: 2 last Friday at the start of the third game day in the Belarusian football upper house Dinamo Minsk. Goalkeeper veteran Vladimir Bushma (36) had to reach behind for the first time this season after conceding no goals. Before half-time, Torpedo Zhodino conceded the second goal. Torpedo had nothing to oppose and for the first time remained without own goals and without points.
Energetics BGU:
The current table leader Energetik-BGU is located in the Belarusian capital Minsk. The club was founded in 1996 and was initially a university football club. From 2002 to 2005 the club was already represented in the highest Belarusian league. After relegation, the club achieved the greatest success in club history in 2006 when the semi-finals of the cup competition were reached.
Returns to the Vysshaya League after 14 years
The few FC Energetik-BGU Minsk fans had to wait 14 years before the return to the Belarusian football upper house was celebrated. As a rising star, the club fought for survival from start to finish. In the end there were 33 points on the credit side in 30 games, which meant 12th place in the final accounts. The advantage over relegation place 14 was just three points.
After the hard-won relegation, a flight of heights, as it is currently emerging, was not to be expected with the best will in the world. Mainly due to the opening game against the dominator of recent years, BATE Borisov (after 13 championships en suite, BATE Borisov had to be satisfied with the vice title last year). In the 3-1 opening win, the 22-year-old Uzbek Jasur Yakshiboev became a match winner with a double pack.
The surprise success was followed by two victories in the games against Rukh Brest and in the city derby against FK Minsk. In these games too, Yakshiboev was the outstanding man in the offensive game. With a total of three goals and an assistant, he was directly involved in four of the six goals this season.
