Zwolle vs Venlo Prediction & Betting tips
PEC Zwolle was one of the revelations of the first half of the season, but in 2018 the team of John van ‘t Schip struggles to achieve results. The well-performing VVV-Venlo will visit on Sunday afternoon.
Zwolle :
PEC Zwolle is in sixth place, a position that is very handsome given the budget of the club, but the supporters hope that the good performances will also result in a ticket for the playoffs. Before the winter break, the Blauwvingers emphatically registered in the top five, but it has now become clear that PEC Zwolle will have to rediscover the shape of yesteryear so that it will not be left empty-handed at the end of the ride. PEC Zwolle is doing a free fall and that shows the figures of the last few weeks. Heerenveen was still beaten for his own audience, but that was actually the only highlight of the last time. In a series of six games in the Eredivisie five defeats were suffered and in between the team of Van ‘t Schip was also playfully blessed by AZ Alkmaar from the KNVB Cup. Work at the store for PEC.
Last week PEC Zwolle booked the eighth defeat of the season with Heracles Almelo. The hosts have this year mainly of the form in their own Polman Stadium as they are there a lot better than in the away games. Against PEC Zwolle this turned out to be the case again. Piotr Parzyszek canceled the opening goal of Kristoffer Peterson, but then it was Vincent Vermeij who put the lead for the team of John Stegeman on the board again. After that goal, PEC Zwolle did not manage to prevent a new loss.
Van ‘t Schip can probably not call on Dirk Marcellis and Stef Nijland this week. Both players missed the previous game because of their injuries and the meeting with VVV-Venlo is just too early for them. Dico Koppers has been on the sidelines for some time. Nicolas Freire will again get a chance in the defense due to the injury of Marcellis.
Venlo :
VVV-Venlo is one of the positive surprises of the season. The Limburgers work just like Excelsior with a small budget, but that does not stop the team of trainer Maurice Steijn from achieving the necessary results. VVV regularly picks points against better considered opponents and that is why it is not surprising that the team is currently in eleventh place. Before the start of the season, enforcement was the goal, but perhaps there is a lot more in the barrel for Steijn’s men. The gap with the sixteenth place has risen to fifteen points and therefore the Venlo people do not have to worry about relegation. The current form is more than good. VVV lost only one of the last nine games. An off-day with Willem II resulted in a 3-0 loss, but from those other matches the necessary points were gathered. A great achievement as VVV recently crossed the swords with strong opponents like AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord and Vitesse.
Last week VVV came close again a victory. The start in the match against Vitesse was excellent. The visitors from Arnhem created the first chance of the match, but VVV immediately hit back. Torino Hunte and Lennart Thy knew the net quickly to find and thus there was after 24 minutes of football already a 2-0 score on the board. After that second goal, Vitesse also managed to show the potential and an unlucky own goal by Nils Röseler and a goal by Mason Mount pulled the score again. These were also the last goals of the game. Again a solid result for VVV and therefore the team will work with the necessary confidence to the showdown with PEC Zwolle. It is also striking that VVV only lost an away match twice.
Steijn will make at least one change this week as Ralf Seuntjens is not available for this competition. The experienced midfielder collected his fifth yellow card of the season last week and that’s what he got on a match suspension. The again recovered Jerold Promes will probably start again in the defense and as a result Danny Post will move to midfield again.
