Sheffield Wed vs Wolves Prediction & Betting tips
Round of play twenty-two starts on Friday evening with a match in which Wolverhampton Wanderers traditionally has a hard time. The poster at Hillsborough ended in 0-0 last year. Do we see this year a winner again?
Sheffield Wed :
In the Championship there are three clubs that have played the same nine times this season. Sheffield Wednesday is one of them. The equal plays plus six victories and six defeats resulted in a modest fourteenth position for The Owls so far. Last season Sheffield reached the playoffs, where it was eliminated by the final winner Huddersfield Town. This season the playoffs seem too high for the Carlos Carvalhal team. Although up to last week five times in a row was not lost (including four equal games in a row), the level difference with the subtop seems larger compared to last year.
The series of games without defeat was thus broken last week, visiting Norwich City. Norwich also has trouble distinguishing this season and so this match was an interesting poster in the middle of the competition. Sheffield Wednesday was especially stable in the first half as a team and even came on a 0-1 lead through Jordan Rhodes. In the second half, however, the away team completely lost control and lost 3-1. Carvalhal indicated after the game that he found it particularly sour that his team did not make a second goal in the first half. Had the second goal been successful, the three points probably went to Sheffield and Sheffield Wednesday over Norwich had jumped on the rankings. The reality, however, is that Norwich has gone through the defeat and the difference now amounts to five points.
Wolves:
All statistics were in favor of Wolverhampton prior to the game between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sunderland. Sunderland has been wandering around the Championship for weeks and is unable to play a good series of games. The Wolves, on the other hand, gained victory after victory and seem to be able to smell the title. Last Saturday’s game went exactly like many expected, Wolverhampton had the ball and chances at the Molineux Stadium and the away team defended with man and power in their own penalty area. There was, however, one thing that no one took into account; the ball did not fly into the goal of Sunderland goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter.
Even when Sunderland came with ten men, Nuno’s team did not manage to outwit the normally unsure defensive team from Sunderland. So at the end of the afternoon, the spectacle position was on the scoreboard and Wolverhampton lost two important points in the battle for the title. The statistics of the contest, however, spoke volumes. Wolverhampton scored 23 (!) Times on goal, against only a single goal from Sunderland. Coach Nuno was nevertheless calm and sober about the lesser result after the game. The Portuguese put the depiction into perspective by saying that these kinds of matches belong in a season and that one or more times a match like this will be played (leading in a draw or defeat).
