Lille vs Montpellier Prediction & Betting tips
Lille and Montpellier, the numbers two and five of the Ligue 1, have both been unbeaten for five games in a row, but that will end Sunday for both teams. Will Lille win for the sixth time in a row or will the team of Michel Der Zakarian end the victory of the number two?
Lille:
Last week, in the eighth finals of the Coupe de la Ligue, Lille was eliminated by Stade Rennais, but in the Ligue 1, the fifth league win was booked in a row by defeating last minute En Avant Guingamp 2-0. With the fifth overall victory in a row and in all fifteenth season victory victory, Christophe Galtier’s team has a six point lead over close opponent Olympique Lyonnais, but more than the second place behind PSG this season does not seem to be the case for the number seventeen of last season.
Noteworthy this season is the difference in the way Lille plays in the first and second half. For the first half the goal difference is still +15 (20-5), while the goal difference for the second half is a lot less with +5 (22-17). In the last half hour of the game, the goal difference with +2 (17-15) is almost zero, so it seems that the team of Galtier is mostly leaving points there. Nevertheless, the figures also give a different picture, because when we look at the difference in points between the first and second half, it appears that if the rest position is equal to the final score that would turn out to be negative. In total, a total of 44 points would have been collected after the first halves, while after 49 games 49 points were still collected.
Montpellier:
In the last five league matches, Montpellier, the king of the draws in the previous season, managed to play an equal four times. Just like two weeks earlier against Nîmes Olympique, Michel Der Zakarian’s team also had to come back against AS Monaco from a draw back in the final phase and again it was Andy Delort who secured a point for his team. Star players Andy Delort and Gaëtan Laborde are now nine times accurate this season but their average goals per game are still below 0.5, one of the reasons why Montpellier has slipped to fifth in the last few weeks with a six point behind the number three, Olympique Lyonnais (that has already played a match more).
As with Lille, there is a difference between the game of Montpellier in both halves. Over the first half the goal difference is +4 (10-6) and after the break the goal difference is +8 (21-13), net quite comparable figures. In total, the team of Der Zakarian retired four times with a deficit, while ultimately four defeats were suffered, one less than Lille. Earlier this season, the home game against Lille was the only game of Les Heraults in which with a disadvantage went into rest and was eventually lost, so Der Zakarian will have warned his team.
