Wigan vs Ipswich Prediction & Betting tips
The last victory of Ipswich Town dates back to the beginning of December and was, as you guessed it, booked at Wigan Athletic (1-0). Almost three months later, both teams are still in danger of relegation and so there is a lot at stake on Saturday afternoon.
Wigan Athletic:
Because of the five points that Wigan Athletic has won in the last three games, some distance has been taken from the relegation zone. The hole with number 22 Rotherham United now consists of five points, so there is at least a little bit of air for Paul Cook’s team. After very poor performances in December and January (four points out of eleven matches), more points were achieved in the three February matches than in these two months. With a match against the number last of the competition, February can just be the most successful month of this season since September (nine points from five games).
In the run-up to the duel with Ipswich Town, Wigan Athletic has organized a training camp in Dubai. This ended with a duel against the champion of China: Shanghai SIPG. Among others, Brazilians Hulk, Elkeson and Oscar are well-known in Europe. However, the three star players could not prevent The Latics from winning 4-3 in Dubai. Joe Garner, Gary Roberts, Anthony Pilkington and Josh Windass were responsible for Wigan’s goals and were partly responsible for the good feeling in the run-up to the cracker against The Tractorboys.
Ipswich Town:
Officially degraded Ipswich Town is not yet, but the prospects are anything but cheerful. The backlog at the first safe spot (21, owned by Reading) is no less than nine points. Degradation seems inevitable and in view of the results, that is actually only right. Only three of the 37 official matches this season were won. Swansea City was beaten 2-3, Rotherham United 1-0 and next opponent Wigan Athletic had to believe in it earlier this season (1-0). In the remaining matches, however, The Tractorboys did very little and that led to the highest number of goals against the competition (56) and the last place in the Championship.
Despite the poor prospects, Paul Hurst’s team has not yet committed itself to relegation. The last two games, against not the least opponents, both ended in a 1-1 draw. Both Derby County and Stoke City were kept under control on Portman Road. Against Derby was the substitute Jon Nolan who made the goal for Town and against The Potters Will Keane was lucky in the injury time of the second half. Trainer Paul Lambert was pleased with the result achieved: ‘In the second half we were ruthless. The atmosphere in the stadium was great and this is another very important point. ‘
