Finland vs Greece Prediction & Betting tips
Finland has excellent papers to reach a final round for the first time since 1980. With Greece, the main competitor for second place behind Italy comes to visit on Thursday.
Finland:
Finland has not been a formidable football country on European fields in recent decades. Since 1980 the Scandinavians have not been able to qualify for a final round and in the qualification for the World Cup in Russia, Finland finished in fifth place out of six countries. Since 2018, however, things have been steadily improving with the Finns. Division C of the Nations League was won at the expense of Hungary, Estonia and Greece, Thursday’s opponent. The men of Marku Kanerva also perform excellently in the current qualifying series. Three of the first four qualifiers, against Liechtenstein, Bosnia and Armenia, were won. Only against league-leader Italy was lost. This means that with a new home win in Greece, the Finns have excellent papers for second place and therefore placement for the European Championship.
The Finnish selection has some Dutch influences. Leo Vaisanen (FC Den Bosch) and Rasmus Karjalainen (Fortuna Sittard) earn their living while Jukka Raitala (including Heerenveen), Joona Toivio (AZ and Telstar), Fredrik Jensen (FC Twente) and captain Tim Sparv (FC Groningen) in the past were active in our country. The great men in Finland are goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky (Bayer Leverkusen) and Teemu Pukki (Norwich City). Pukki in particular is in blood form. Last season, he scored no less than 29 times for Norwich, making a significant contribution to promotion. In the Premier League, too, he has a lightning start with five hits in the first four games.
Greece:
In contrast to Finland, Greece experienced an extremely miserable start to the European Championship qualification. The European champion of 2004 will have to go all the way in the remaining competitions in order not to miss out on placement for 2020. Out of the first four games, the Greeks only scored four points, including three against football dwarf Liechtenstein. The draw against Bosnia and the defeats against Italy and in particular Armenia could prove fatal to Greece. With a defeat in Helsinki, Greece seems to be able to forget second place.
The bad results cost head coach Angelos Anastasiadis the head. Led by none other than John van ‘t Schip, the Greek Football Association hopes to bring about a shock effect. The Amsterdammer is faced with the task of achieving six points in the diptych against Finland and Liechtenstein. Van ‘t Schip immediately showed to follow the Eredivisie well. Willem II duo Vangelis Pavlidis and Marios Vrousai were rewarded for their strong performances and the excellent start of the Tilburg season. PSV acquisition Kostas Mitroglou has not been called up.
The Greeks have the most international experience at the rear with players such as Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Kostas Manolas and Vasilis Torosidis. Especially at the forefront, international experience is lacking.
