Ferencvaros vs Espanyol Prediction & Betting tips
It promises to be a hot night in Budapest on Thursday evening, when local pride Ferencvaros takes on the Spanish League in the group stage against Espanyol. The home club must necessarily win to keep its hopes of European wintering alive, while the already placed Spaniards can take it easy.
Ferencvaros:
The Hungarian Ferencvaros is not exactly a European high flyer. For the first time in fifteen years, the Budapest club has once again made its appearance in the Europa League group stage, and has unfortunately been in the news more often in recent years due to hooliganism than to sporting achievements. However, Ukrainian football legend Sergey Rebrov has brought the sleeping giant back to life. Ferencvaros takes the lead in its own country and is therefore on track for its 31st club history title, and also has a chance of hibernating in the Europa League.
Then Thursday evening must be won from Espanyol. Ferencvaros currently occupies third place with five points in group H, at a point of number two Ludogorets. The team obviously works with a modest budget, but has a nice selection for Hungarian standards. Captain Leandro and former Swansea City and Watford player Tamas Priskin are the big stars. Midfielder Marten Wilmots – the son of Marc Wilmots – is also under contract with Ferencvaros, even though he didn’t play for the Hungarian top club for less than a minute.
Espanyol:
Spain’s Espanyol, with ten points from four group matches, is already assured of participating in the knockout phase of the Europa League, and can therefore work towards the away match against Ferencvaros without pressure. At home, however, the club from Barcelona is experiencing a bad season, and with a penultimate place in La Liga it even fears relegation.
Trainer Pablo Machin logically focuses on the very important league game of coming weekend against Osasuna, and will kick off a combination of reserves and youth players against Ferencvaros. Key players such as David Lopez, Marc Roca, Victor Sanchez and Wu Lei are consciously rested and have stayed in Spain, while Naldo, Facundo Ferreyra, Pablo Piatti and Matias Vargas will also not be present due to injury. The canteranos Adrian, Moha and Iago did get on the plane to Budapest.
