Marseille vs Metz Prediction & Betting tips
The last meeting between Olympique Marseille and Metz at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille resulted in a 6-3 victory for the home team. Can we expect another spectacle on Saturday evening?
Marseille:
With victories at Stade Brestois and Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique Marseille started the new season well, but in recent weeks the team of André Villas-Boas has been in a rough place. A week and a half ago they lost 2-0 to AS Saint-Étienne in-house and last weekend the home game against Lille ended in a 1-1 draw. L’OM was still happy with that, because the Marseilles people barely managed to create chances against the current number five of the Ligue 1. Is Saturday night three times a charm for the Villas-Boas team with regard to a good result in a home game?
With only five goals in the first four games, there is currently a lot to criticize at the vanguard of the Marseilles people. Florian Thauvin is the only frontline base player to live up to expectations this season, but that can’t be said about Dario Benedetto and Dmitri Payet. The Argentinian striker and French winger were unable to hit a single goal this season and came out flat against Lille last weekend. It is that their replacements have not been able to impress so far, because otherwise both would already be sure of a place on the bench.
Metz:
The first three games of the new season were all lost 1-0 by Metz, but last weekend Vincent Hognon’s team finally managed to win. Les Grenats quickly took a 1-0 lead in the home game against Stade de Reims, but Hognon’s team had to take another goal before half time. After a red card for Stade de Reims shortly after half time, les Grenats were lord and master on the field and a goal in the final phase by Ibrahima Niané eventually resulted in a deserved 2-1 victory.
Ibrahima Niané was responsible for both hits by his team last weekend and is still the club’s top scorer with two hits. The 21-year-old Senegalese striker has, with an average of 0.19 goals per league match in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, not yet an excellent average, but this season may well be the season of his breakthrough. Niané knows two formidable competitors for the striker position with Habibou Diallo and Thierry Ambrose, but because both his teammates have not yet managed to impress this season, Niané seems to be able to start in the base again this weekend.
