Blackburn vs Derby Prediction & Betting tips
Visiting Blackburn Rovers gives Derby County the chance to re-enter the top six of the Championship. The home team is hopelessly out of shape and doesn’t play for anything this season, so Derby has good chances on Tuesday-evening.
Blackburn Rovers:
PhD candidate Blackburn Rovers has had periods this season in which the results were so good that a place in the top six of the Championship was not unrealistic. However, those good periods were interspersed with dramatic months, so The Rovers ended up in the right-hand row of the competition at the end of the season. For example, the first season in the Premier League since 2012 will not be in Blackburn. Nevertheless, the current sixteenth place is a great performance for the team that played in the League One last season.
However, the last few weeks have been exceptionally rough at Blackburn. Since the end of January, only one game was won in the Championship, only Wigan Athletic was beaten 3-0. Nine of the eleven remaining games were lost. The four points that have been captured in the past two months are simply not enough for The Potters to compete with the left row of the Championship.
Trainer Tony Mowbray has expressed the confidence that both Bradley Dack and Charlie Mulgrew can start on Tuesday-evening prior to the match with Derby County. Dack was already injured prior to last weekend’s game with Stoke City and captain Mulgrew had to stop the fight against The Potters due to an ankle injury. Both can in principle be used again at Ewood Park Tuesday evening.
Derby County:
Unlike Blackburn Rovers, Derby County is still in the race to qualify for the playoffs. The Rams are only two points behind number six in Bristol City and therefore have a good chance of taking part in the follow-up competition for a ticket to the prestigious Premier League for the second year in a row. Last year Fulham, the final winner of the play-offs, was already too strong for Derby in the first round (1-0, 2-0).
Since last round, Frank Lampard’s Derby is no longer in the top six of the Championship. Although The Rams have been unbeaten for five consecutive games, sixth place was lost. There was namely a draw three times against considerably fewer opponents. At home, Derby got no further than draws against Sheffield Wednesday (1-1) and Stoke City (0-0) and last weekend the game with Brentford also ended without a winner (3-3).
Derby took the lead three times in that draw last Saturday, but time after time it was not possible to hold onto the lead against the number fourteen of the Championship. With the Dutchman Kelle Roos on goal, The Rams did not keep the goal clean again for the ninth time in the past ten games.
