Manchester Utd vs Barcelona Prediction & Betting tips
On Wednesday evening, a wonderful football squatter is on the program at Old Trafford, as Manchester United takes on none other than FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Both football giants hope to be able to take a big step towards the final four of the European champions’ ball in the first match.
Manchester United:
Every year, the knockout phase of the Champions League brings back some memorable comebacks. This season it was the turn of Manchester United, which managed to stunt the much stronger Paris Saint-Germain in the eighth finals. Despite a laundry list of injuries, the English managed to clear away the 0-2 defeat from the first match thanks to a 1-3 home victory, and are back in the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time in five years.
Since the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the end of last year, Manchester United has regained some color. That fantastic victory over the Parc des Princes was exactly what the troubled top club needed at the time. The Red Devils, however, failed to build on that victory, because in the four subsequent games they stepped three times as losers. Last week, Manchester United was surprised by a 2-1 defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers, as a result of which the team is no longer in control of the coveted fourth place. This form dip comes at the worst possible moment, as Manchester United will need two top matches to shake off FC Barcelona. The good news, however, is that the English infirmary has been considerably thinned out compared to last month.
FC Barcelona:
FC Barcelona is perhaps the best club of the last decade and, together with Manchester City and Juventus, is one of the top favorites for winning the Champions League. Also in the diptych against Manchester United, the Catalans are the favorite. Nevertheless, people will be wary at Camp Nou, because in the last three seasons the Blaugrana have always fallen in the quarter-finals of the European million-dollar ball. Last year it was AS Roma that Lionel Messi and associates managed to take a heel thanks to a memorable 3-0 victory in the Stadio Olimpico. The team of coach Ernesto Valverde will have to cross a mental threshold against Manchester United.
FC Barcelona is in top form in any case. Thanks to late goals from the South American super tandem Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, Atletico Madrid was dealt with 2-0 last weekend, making the eighth national title in the last eleven years only a matter of time. If all goes well, Valverde can even help his team to the third triple in club history after 2009 and 2015, because next month the Catalans will face Valencia in the cup final. The Valverde team has been undefeated for sixteen consecutive games and is full of confidence. The only weak spot is the somewhat shaky defense, which recently had to collect no less than four goals against a visit to the Spanish low-flyer Villarreal.
