Chelsea vs Dyn. Kyiv Prediction & Betting tips
In the eighth finals of the Europa League, Chelsea will face Dynamo Kiev on Thursday night at Stamford Bridge. For the English, this means the last chance of the season to win a grand prize.
Chelsea:
The Europa League was probably not high on the priority list of Maurizio Sarri when he started his job as trainer of Chelsea last summer. At the moment, the second tournament in Europe for the club from London is the only way to crown the season with silverware. Last month, Chelsea was eliminated in both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, while in the Premier League no further than a meager sixth place.
It may be called a small miracle that Sarri may still call himself Chelsea’s trainer at all. The Italian was very successful with, among others, Napoli, but his famous Sarriball does not seem to work on Stamford Bridge. The coach is heavily under fire with the fans and the players do not seem to see him anymore. The failed substitution of Kepa Arrizabalaga in the League Cup final, who refused to go to the side, was nothing short of ridiculous. The end of Sarri in London seemed close, but Chelsea was able to miraculously recover via back-to-back victories over the townspeople Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham. The Blues now have the fourth place again within reach, although they have a second iron in the fire with the Europa League in the battle for a ticket for the Champions League. After all, the winner places himself directly in front of the group stage of the European champions ball. The expectation is that Chelsea will take the diptych against Dynamo Kiev seriously, because the Europa League has suddenly become a lot more important than originally thought.
Dynamo Kiev:
At Dynamo Kiev there is a lot less turmoil. The Ukrainian competition is almost over and the capitals can look back on a nice season. As expected, Shakhtar Donetsk turned out to be too big, but the team of trainer Alyaksandr Khatskevich managed to limit the difference with the leader to only seven points. Perhaps the blue-whites can still turn their arch rival this season, because Shakhtar Donetsk will be the opponent in the Ukrainian cup final in early April. However, at the moment Khatskevich can fully focus on the diptych against Chelsea in the eighth finals of the Europa League.
Dynamo Kiev is obviously the big underdog. The away match at Stamford Bridge will mainly be a matter of survival and the damage limited. An out target is of course crucial, but the visitors know some attacking problems on Thursday evening. Vice-club top scorer Benjamin Verbic is suspended, while the Fran Sol recently taken over from Willem II is in the rags basket. Of the current team actually only Viktor Tsygankov has scoring ability.
