Czech Republic vs Bulgaria Prediction & Betting tips
The Czech Republic started the qualifying series with a big defeat against England and therefore needs three points against Bulgaria so as not to immediately fall behind.
Czech Republic:
Czech football has had better years. In the first decade of this century the Czechs were almost standard in a final tournament and could have a golden generation of players like Tomas Rosicky, Petr Cech, Zdenek Grygera, Pavel Nedved, Jan Koller and Karel Poborsky. The current national team is a lot less strong and usually plays at home or in the middle of Europe.
Last summer, the team of national coach Jaroslav Silhavy missed the world championship in Russia by finishing in the qualifying pool behind Northern Ireland. The Czechs are keen not to miss another final tournament, but started with a 5-0 defeat on a visit to England downright bad. Assuming that England will be able to qualify for the European Championship, the Czechs will have to keep Bulgaria, Montenegro and Kosovo behind. Teams with less quality than the Czech Republic, but no dwarf countries either.
Bulgaria:
The heyday of Bulgarian football is in the 90s of the last century when the Bulgarians led by star player Hristo Stoichkov even managed to reach the semifinals of the World Cup in the United States. Bulgaria is not doing so well this century and has not even qualified for a final tournament, even though it was close by a few times. In terms of selection, Bulgaria is also not much more than a mid-engine, with since the departure of Dimitar Berbatov not even a single player in the ranks that will ring a bell with the average football fan.
In the last qualifying series, Bulgaria was divided into a very tough group with France, Sweden, Belarus, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The Bulgarians performed excellently in their own country, losing only to France and winning the rest of its home games. It went wrong outside of Bulgaria, however, because only one point was caught, at Luxembourg.
Bulgaria started this qualifying series with two draws against Montenegro and Kosovo. With a defeat in Prague, second place also becomes a very difficult story for the country of national coach Krasimir Balakov.
