Ukraine vs Serbia Prediction & Betting tips
The qualifying series continues on Friday evening. Ukraine and Serbia meet in Kiev. The winner can immediately take a big hit.
Ukraine:
Group B is one of the stronger groups in the qualifying series. With Portugal, Serbia and Ukraine, the group contains three strong countries that think they belong to a final tournament. However, there are only two tickets to distribute and Portugal is of course top favorite to become a group winner. Serbia and Ukraine are therefore major competitors for the second direct ticket. Because both Portugal, Serbia and Ukraine won their division in the Nations League, all three countries are assured of at least the play-offs.
Ukraine can immediately take a big blow for second place with a win at home, because if Serbia is defeated, the team of national coach Andriy Shevchenko will be on seven points from three games. In the first two games, Luxembourg was defeated and the team earned a creditable point visiting Portugal.
The Ukrainians have a solid team, but there are no real top players. Oleksandr Zinchenko of Manchester City is the only one employed by a European top team. For the rest, the vast majority are under contract with Shakhtar Donetsk or Dynamo Kiev, while four players are also active in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
Serbia:
Like Ukraine, Serbia was crowned the Nations League group winner. Due to poor performance in recent years, Serbs were sentenced to Division C and a group with Romania, Lithuania and Montenegro. That group was convincingly won with fourteen points from six games by the team of former international Mladen Krstajic. Serbia also got off to a good start with the qualifying series with a creditable point to visit Portugal. In total, the Balkan country has been unbeaten for eight games in a row. The last defeat was suffered at the last world championship against Brazil.
The big names in Serbia are Ajax player Dusan Tadic and brand new Real Madrid purchase Luka Jovic. Due to injuries, other strong players such as Nemanja Matic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luka Milivojevic are not present.
