Guingamp vs Marseille Prediction & Betting tips
The first match in Saturday’s Ligue 1 is between low-flyer En Avant Guingamp and subtopper Olympique Marseille. Can the team of Jocelyn Gourvennec make it to number eighteen Dijon or can the Marziers win for the first time in five games twice in a row?
Guingamp:
In a show piece visiting RC Strasbourg, low flyer En Avant Guingamp twice took the lead in the last round by Marcus Thuram and Lucas Deaux, but just as often the winner of the Coupe de la Ligue returned. After more than seventy minutes of play, En Avant even trailed 3-2, but in the final stage, veteran Jeremy Sorbon set the final score at 3-3, causing the team from Britain to tie RC Strasbourg three times this season.
With six games to go in Ligue 1, En Avant has eight points behind in the safe seventeenth place and three more duels against teams from the left row and three duels against teams from the right row. Jocelyn Gourvennec’s team does not seem to have any direct retention, but given the fact that the last two duels are meetings with PhD student Nîmes Olympique and low-flyer Amiens, there is still hope in eighteenth place in Britain. Certainly since no less than five points were taken from the last four games and there are more than direct competitors Caen and Dijon.
Olympique Marseille:
Until last round, Olympique Marseille was busy with a mediocre series with defeats against Paris Saint-Germain and Girondins de Bordeaux and a draw against Angers, but last weekend it was finally won again. In its own Vélodrome, Olympique Marseille was a lot stronger than PhD student Nîmes Olympique, but it took until the seventy-minute minute until the difference was made. With goals from Valère Germain and Luiz Gustavo, OM entered the final phase with a safe lead, in which the 2-1 was still taken. However, the current fifth place for the Marseille players is not enough to qualify for the Europa League for next season, which means that another result will have to be achieved next weekend.
A major disappointment after the match against Nîmes Olympique was an injury to striker Mario Balotelli, who had to change after half an hour. The Italian, who was voted the best player of the Ligue 1 in March earlier this month, however, seems fit for the match against En Avant and that seems good news for his trainer given his impressive statistics. Supermario scored six goals in its last nine games for OM and despite the fact that it played the first half of the season for Olympique Nice, it is the second most scoring player of its team after star player Florian Thauvin.
