Leeds vs Derby Prediction & Betting tips
Leeds has taken a big step towards the final of the playoffs by winning 0-1 against Derby County at the Pride Park Stadium. Kemar Roofe was the only goal scorer, but will not be able to play in the return on Elland Road due to a calf injury. Does Derby still have a chance to win the final?
Leeds United:
Leeds has given itself an excellent starting position by winning the first match in the semi-final of the playoffs with 0-1 from Derby County. The battle for the third ticket to the Premier League is nearing its climax, because after Wednesday night we know which two teams will play the final at Wembley. Leeds seemed to be more likely than Derby to get through the goal of Kemar Roofe after 55 minutes. Whites trainer Marcelo Bielsa remains cautious: “0-1 is an advantage, but not nearly decisive.”
Bielsa has received bad news about Roofe this week. The 26-year-old striker, good for sixteen goals this season, has suffered a calf injury and will not be able to take part in the return on Elland Road. Also Adam Forshaw is definitely not there on Wednesday evening. After all, captain Pontus Jansson is still a doubt. Last Saturday, Gaetano Berardi was in place and if the Swede did not make it to the game on Wednesday, the 30-year-old Swiss seems to claim a spot again central in the defense. Roofe will probably be replaced by Patrick Bamford. The English striker has finished his suspension of two matches for a schwalbe and can be used again by Bielsa.
Derby County:
Derby County will work a lot more nervously towards the duel on Elland Road, knowing it has hardly been used during the first leg of the semi-final of the play-offs. Frank Lampard was able to thank keeper Kelle Roos for not returning home with a bigger win. The Dutchman kept his team going with great saves several times after the opening goal of Leeds in the second half.
For a moment Derby seemed to be able to travel to Leeds with a draw in his pocket. Fifteen minutes before time, referee Craig Pawson pointed to the spot for a penalty for The Rams. Surprisingly, he changed his opinion after consulting his assistant. There is no VAR in the Championship and so Derby had to settle for Pawson’s remarkable decision. Lampard said: “A human VAR. I wasn’t sure if it was a penalty, but at least I find it strange that he reverses his decision. I don’t think the referee has missed crucial information. ”
The Rams have reached the play-offs for the fourth time in the last six seasons, but again seem to avoid promotion to the Premier League. The last season in the Premier League took place more than ten years ago and next season it seems that Derby is playing in the Championship.
