Westerlo vs Charleroi Prediction & Betting tips
On Wednesday evening, Westerlo receives a visit from Sporting Charleroi. Charleroi can claim the group profit on this penultimate match day. On the other hand, Westerlo can come to Charleroi to one point in a three-point and possibly Sint-Truiden also plays for group victory. It does not need to be made clear that this is a very important game for both teams. Westerlo did not yet lose at home. Will Charleroi change that?
Westerlo:
Bob Peeters’ troops are doing very well in these play-offs. In eight games it only lost twice and with twelve points it is in a very good third place. Leader Charleroi is currently on a safe lead with four points and seems to be starting with the group win, although Westerlo can throw a spanner in the works and even throw a throw at group win. Sint-Truiden is still in between with one point more than Westerlo (and three less than Charleroi). Last weekend it was already the measure of a weak KV Oostende.
There was not much at stake on Saturday night in the Versluys Arena. Both KV Oostende and Westerlo no longer had ambitions in play-off 2, where both hoped to complete their season in beauty. Those from KVO benefited from performing well. Kers fresh coach Kåre Ingebrigtsen took his place in the stands. Despite the presence of the future trainer, the coastal team started as they do too often. Incredibly limp without much duel power – Westerlo occasionally walked through the midfield of the home team. After eight minutes, the lead for the Kempen club was not unmerited. Gboho could only rely on Ondoa and did not miss. Two minutes later, De Schryver had a unique opportunity to double the lead, but now Ondoa did save. KVO baked little or nothing of it. Only Marquet was able to threaten before the break with two good attempts from a distance. KVO started promisingly in the second half, but soon flared up. After weak defending Vanlerberghe, Gboho made it 0-2 past the hour. His substitute Petrov scored a third Westel goal, much to the dissatisfaction of the home crowd. The final quarter was a measure of nothing. In the absolute final phase, Petrov also failed to hit a second time. Ostend really did not do anything, for the coastal team the season must be over as quickly as possible. Westerlo now has twelve points in the group after a more than decent away game by the sea.
Bob Peeters could look back satisfied this time compared to the week before when the equalizer was rejected by the VAR: “I think we clearly state here that my team is still hungry, despite the fact that we can hardly win anything anymore. Mathematically it is still possible, and we believe in it. We will do everything on Wednesday to keep the three points at home and who knows where it will take us. ”
Sporting Charleroi:
After a very bad start in these play-offs, Charleroi recovered very strongly with a sixteen out of eighteen. Sint-Truiden seemed on its way to an easy group win, but partly because they could no longer win four times in a row, Charleroi is now suddenly alone on top and that also with three points loose plus a more than sufficient goal balance. Doing the next match at least as well as Sint-Truiden seems sufficient, although it should not lose, because the third, namely Westerlo opponent on Wednesday, then comes to one point and suddenly joins in. This weekend it went to Beerschot which was no match for the Carolos.
Beerschot-Charleroi was never a match worthy of the name. Beerschot missed no fewer than eleven players and that is – certainly for a club from 1B – too much of a good thing. As if the assignment for the home team was not difficult enough, she also swallowed an early goal. Already in the second minute, Dorian Dessoleil headed for a 0-1 goal at a corner from Massimo Bruno. Charleroi had the upper hand and occasionally set a tempo acceleration. At one of those rhythm changes, Bruno came close to scoring, but Beerschotter Mboko wiped the ball off the line. It turned out to be just a postponement of execution: in the following corner kick, Charleroi’s top scorer Victor Osimhen doubled the score. For the 20-year-old Nigerian, it was his sixteenth goal of the season. Both goals were too simple from Beerschot’s point of view. Because Osimhen left two more chances unused, we went to rest at a 0-2 score. After the break we got more or less the same game image. Charleroi checked, while Beerschot showed himself completely inept. The most important achievement in the second half was for a long time a missed penalty from Osimhen. Ref Laforge first awarded a goal, but the VAR judged that the ball had not been completely over the line. In the absolute final phase of a tepid second period, substitute Niane put the 0-3 final figures on the board. Finally: simple win for the Carolos.
Felice Mazzu could not help but praise his team: “We have what we had to do. We were at the start of the appointment and that makes a lot of difference to the course of the game. We were able to control the game early on saying that it only became 0-3 so late is perhaps not positive although we were never in danger and we could simply keep the zero. An important party is waiting on Wednesday where we can officially take the group win. ”
