Nottingham vs West Brom Prediction & Betting tips
Round one has only just ended or the next games are already in the Championship. Nottingham Forest will win after the draw against Bristol at The City Ground, the stadium where Forest has been playing home games since 1898. West Brom will also have the first three points after the surprising loss against Bolton Wanderers.
Nottingham Forest:
After an almost perfect season preparation, Nottingham Forest started the new season last Saturday with an away match against Bristol City. Knowing that Bristol was not doing well, a victory seemed certainly possible for the men of Aitor Karanka. In Bristol, however, Forest experienced a remarkably difficult opening phase in which the home team was largely in control. In that first half, Forest came on early from a corner. The visiting party turned out to have trouble throughout the game with the dead game situations of Bristol. In the second half, however, Forest took control and that resulted in the equalizer within a minute via a nice header from Daryl Murphy. Forest continued to fight for victory, but it failed to pass Niki Mäenpää, which meant that the first game of the season yielded only one point.
With the home game against relegant West Brom, Forest gets another chance to enter the first three points of the season within three days after the game against Bristol. It will not be easy to win from The Baggies, but it is by no means impossible. Looking at recent history, there is little to say about the chances of Forest against West Brom. In 2014 a (meaningless) practice spot was won with 1-0 and the last competition in competition dates back to 2010. At that time, Forest won 1-3 of a West Brom led by Roberto di Matteo.
West Bromwich Albion:
Just like fellow-degradant Stoke City, West Brom did good business in keeping order after the relegation. The biggest loss will come from the departure of PSG mercenary Grzegorz Krychowiak, defender Jonny Evans and keeper Ben Foster. The departure of the latter two, however, has been taken care of by the purchases of Kyle Bartley of Swansea City and Sam Johnstone of Manchester United. Both players started in the base against Bolton Wanderers last Saturday, but could not prevent the number 21 of last season from taking the lead early on The Hawthorns. Between two defenders, a Bolton striker managed to get the ball inside. Sam Johnstone seemed to be able to stop the ball.
A wonderful goal in the extra time of the first half, however, ensured that West Brom did not take a break. Summer Harvey Barnes shot the ball with a beautiful curl of distance in the intersection of the goal. The Magpies seemed to be doing the job in the second half and were constantly the parent. The only problem turned out to be the completion. Welsh international Hall Robson-Kanu and former Southampton player Jay Rodriguez did not get the ball. Not scoring West Brom turned out to be fatal when Yanic Wildschut just in time from inside the ball. Once again Johnstone did not look good at the goal. Because of the defeat, Darren Moore’s team now has to search for the first points of the season in the difficult away match against Forest.
