Paris SG vs Manchester Utd Prediction & Betting tips
The first day of the group stage of the Champions League has a special match on the menu for football fans. In the Parc des Princes, losing finalist Paris Saint-Germain faces Manchester United, the team that lost the final of the Europa League.
Paris Saint-Germain:
Paris Saint-Germain played an almost perfect season last year. The subscription to the championship in the Ligue 1 was extended, and the team of trainer Thomas Tuchel also seized the Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue. An international trophy was just not added to the Parisians’ trophy cabinet. PSG managed to reach the final, only Bayern Munich proved too strong for the French superpower in Lisbon. After a number of frustrating years in the billion dollar ball, however, reaching the final battle was an excellent achievement.
One of those frustrating seasons in the Champions League was 2018/2019, when Manchester United blocked PSG’s way to the quarter-finals. After a 0-2 win at Old Trafford, everything seemed to be within reach for the French, but in Paris, after a much-discussed penalty kick in the final phase, they lost 1-3. After a rough start in their own country, Paris is now gaining momentum. On Friday it was won for the fifth time in a row. Partly due to two hits by Kylian Mbappe, Nimes was defeated 0-4, in a match in which Mitchel Bakker again played the full ninety minutes.
Manchester United:
Like Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United lost a European final this summer. The Mancunians played in the final battle against Sevilla. Despite an early lead, after a well-used penalty kick from Bruno Fernandes, the English eventually pulled the short straw (2-1). This season, United has started off shakily. The Premier League has already lost twice at Old Trafford. Especially the 1-6 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur was hard.
On Saturday, the team did beat Newcastle United, mainly by three late hits (1-4). Newcomer Donny van de Beek played an important role as a substitute on the side of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team. Van de Beek seems to have to settle for that role as a substitute for the time being, given that Bruno Fernandes is completely undisputed about his position. For a good result, on Tuesday in Paris, the Portuguese playmaker will mainly be looked at. Compared to Saturday’s league game at Newcastle, Anthony Martial is back in the game.
