PSV vs Barcelona Prediction & Betting tips
The Philips Stadium in Eindhoven can expect a high level of visitors, because Wednesday evening the FC Barcelona of no one less than Lionel Messi comes to visit. The cards in Group B of the Champions League have already been largely shaken, but that does not mean that PSV wants to set a good match against one of the biggest clubs in the world.
PSV:
Too big for the napkin, but still too small for the tablecloth. That is in a nutshell the story of PSV. With three league titles from the last four seasons and thirteen league victories in a row, the Eindhoven players are supreme in their own country, but in the Champions League, the team of coach Mark van Bommel has trouble. With only one point out of four group matches, the red-whites can write overwintering in the European champions ball on their stomachs, although a spot in the knockout phase of the Europa League is still possible. But Wednesday evening, however, will have to be won from Lionel Messi and associates.
Apart from the long-term injured Ryan Thomas, PSV does not have any personnel problems, so Van Bommel will most likely kick off the usual eleven names again. The Eindhoven hope is mainly based on Hirving Lozano, one of the few PSV players who can really compete at this level. Also Luuk de Jong bursts after his world goal last weekend against SC Heerenveen (3-0) of self-confidence.
FC Barcelona:
FC Barcelona is sitting on roses, because with ten points from four group matches, the Catalans are already assured of a spot in the last sixteen in the Champions League. Nevertheless, the star formation of trainer Ernesto Valverde will also go full in Eindhoven for the three points. With a new victory over PSV, the Catalans are finally crowning the group winner, which means that they will probably miss out on big powers such as Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Juventus in the eighth finals.
FC Barcelona can use a boost, because the Blaugrana did not win three official matches in a row. Last weekend, thanks to the late equalizer of Ousmane Dembele, the Catalans escaped from Atletico Madrid (1-1), but they had to surrender the leading position in La Liga to Sevilla. The rearguard in particular gives Valverde headaches, as in the last six matches the football giant only managed to keep its goal clean against the insignificant Cultural Leonesa. Valverde also has to puzzle in the front. Luis Suarez is in the rags basket, while Philippe Coutinho is a doubtful case. The expectation is therefore that Messi will be at the center of the attack, with Dembele and Coutinho or Malcom on the wings.
