Rennes vs Bordeaux Prediction & Betting tips
In Ligue 1, the usual table picture can be seen again after ten match days. While PSG greets from the top, other teams are fighting for one of the two starting places for the premier class. Especially the second place in the table is of great importance, after all, the Ligue 1 runner-up gets a direct start right for the premier class.
That place is currently Lille, closely followed by Stade Rennes, who are third in the table, just one point behind. Those responsible for the third of last year will be satisfied at most. Rennes is currently in a crisis of form and has recently lost its good starting position in Ligue 1.
Across all competitions, Stade Rennes has only won one victory in the last eight competitive games. The international break came at an ideal time. On Friday evening, the Red-Blacks will kick off the eleventh game day in Ligue 1.
Rennes :
Last season, Stade Rennes was a big beneficiary of the premature end of the Ligue 1 season. For the first time in the club’s history, the Red-Blacks got a right to start in the Champions League, in which Rennes, with opponents like Chelsea, Sevilla and Krasnodar, was a very feasible group caught. So far, the desired success on the international stage has not been achieved.
In the first three group games of the Champions League, there was only one point for the team of head coach Julien Stéphan. So hopes for a round of 16 in the premier class have shrunk, even if everything is mathematically possible. At least the third group place is within reach and a realistic goal for the French.
Third place would definitely be a consolation, because this would allow the international adventure to continue in the knockout phase of the Europa League. For the time being, however, Stéphan’s team is dedicating itself to the national competition in which Rennes wants to get back on the road to success. In Ligue 1 there was only one win in the last five games.
It is therefore all the more important for the Red-Blacks to win the home game on Friday evening. This means that Stade Rennes can climb to second place in the table for the time being and put the league competitors under pressure again. At home, the Stéphan-Elf suffered only one defeat in the last ten home games in all competitions.
Stéphan will have to complain about a few failures at the home game against Girondins. Five players are currently on the injured list, with two of the five players still able to play.
Bordeaux :
At Girondins Bordeaux, things didn’t go well before the international break. The blue-whites suffered three defeats in the last five games and thus slipped in the Ligue 1 table. The footballers from the French port city are currently in twelfth place in the table, but are only five points behind fifth in the table and thus the last starting place for the international competition.
In Ligue 1 there was a home defeat against Montpellier (0-2) on the last match day, which ended the strong home series of the blue-whites. Girondins Bordeaux previously remained unbeaten eight home games in a row across all seasons. In a foreign country, the table twelfth is threatened with the next setback.
After all, there have been three defeats in the last three away games, including the bankruptcy at AS Monaco (0-4), when the team of coach Jean-Louis Gasset was downright played against the wall. This season, Bordeaux only has a record of 1-0-3, making the blue-whites the third weakest away team in Ligue 1.
On Friday evening, Jean-Louis Gasset will still have to do without his offensive player Samuel Kalu. The 23-year-old Nigerian is expected to have another two weeks off, as will center-back Mexer. The failure of Kalu is always serious, because with nine goals Bordeaux is currently the second weakest attack department in the French House of Lords.
Big changes compared to the starting eleven from before the international break are not expected at Girondins.
